Wellbeing

A big thank you to all the families who took the time to complete our recent Wellbeing Survey. We were thrilled to receive responses from more than 75% of our families, providing us with valuable insights into the wellbeing experiences of students and families at St Mary's. Your feedback helps us celebrate what is working well and identify areas where we can continue to grow and improve. Congratulations to Kirsten Mulholland, whose name was drawn as our survey prize winner. Kirsten will receive a Gus and Ollie's gift voucher along with a box of chocolates. Thank you again to everyone who participated.
Our Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program will continue in Term Three, with students exploring topics including gender norms, stereotypes and positive gender relationships. These topics will be taught in a developmentally appropriate way, with a focus on helping students better understand themselves, recognise and respect differences, and build positive, healthy relationships with others. If any parents or carers would like further information about the content being covered in these units, please contact Steph Sefton at ssefton@sleaglehawk.catholic.edu.au.
Early in Term Three, we will hold a special Wellbeing Assembly to highlight the many ways St Mary's supports the wellbeing of our students and nurtures the whole child. Families will learn more about the wellbeing services available within our school and the proactive approaches we take to support students' social, emotional and mental health. The assembly will also include the presentation of Semester One Citizenship Awards, recognising students who consistently demonstrate leadership, kindness and positive citizenship within our school community. In addition, Specialist Awards will be presented to students who have excelled in specialist subjects throughout Semester One.
SchoolTV: Understanding Depression
This month's SchoolTV article focuses on depression in children and young people. While it is normal for children to feel sad, disappointed or "down" from time to time, ongoing feelings of sadness that begin to impact daily life, relationships or learning may be a sign that additional support is needed. The article provides practical information for parents on recognising the signs of depression, understanding risk factors, and accessing appropriate support for young people.
We encourage all families to take a few moments to read this important resource:

Together, we can help ensure every child feels supported, connected and able to thrive.
St Mary's Partners with Be You
We are excited to announce that St Mary's is partnering with Be You, Australia's national mental health and wellbeing initiative for schools and learning communities. Through this partnership, our staff will engage in professional learning and access evidence-informed tools and resources designed to strengthen our whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Be You supports schools to create positive, inclusive and connected learning environments where every child can thrive. As part of our involvement, staff will continue building their knowledge and confidence in supporting student wellbeing, promoting resilience, and fostering a mentally healthy school community.
Importantly, Be You also provides a range of resources for families. Throughout the year, we look forward to sharing practical information, fact sheets and wellbeing supports to help strengthen the partnership between home and school. Together, we can continue to nurture a learning community where children, families and educators are empowered to achieve their best possible mental health and wellbeing.
