3/4 CLASSROOM

As we approach the end of Term 2, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and growth I have seen from all the ¾ students this semester. I am incredibly proud of the way they have approached their learning, particularly during our assessment period, showing persistence, resilience and a willingness to challenge themselves. Here is a snapshot of some of the learning that has been taking place in our classroom.
In English, students have begun planning and writing their narratives inspired by our novel The Arrival. They selected a character from the story and explored their experiences through character and illustration analysis, learning how both descriptive language and images can help tell a story. In Spelling, students have been investigating word origins and discovering how the English language has borrowed sounds and spelling patterns from languages such as Greek, Latin and French.
In Maths, both Year 3 and Year 4 students began exciting new units of learning. Year 4 students explored 2D shapes and symmetry through a range of hands-on activities, while Year 3 students began their Data unit, collecting information and using Excel to represent their findings.
In Religious Education, students continued learning about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. They completed their person studies, explored the Church as a place of believing, serving and celebrating, and are now creating booklets reflecting on how they can demonstrate these gifts in their own lives.
Our Inquiry learning focused on how different countries care for the environment. Students compared the vegetation zones of Australia, Canada and Alaska and discussed how geography influences the way people interact with and care for the natural world.
In Art, students continued exploring the work of Indigenous artist Bronwyn Bancroft. Inspired by her use of line and colour, they created vibrant continuous line artworks using oil pastels and watercolours.
In Auslan, students enjoyed practising signs for common objects and applying their skills through interactive activities with their classmates.
The students are also eagerly counting down to our Caritas slime challenge next Thursday! There has been plenty of excitement around the classroom as students continue to vote and support this important cause. We look forward to celebrating their efforts and seeing who will be covered in slime!
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support throughout the term. It has been a pleasure to work alongside your children and celebrate their growth and achievements this semester. I hope everyone enjoys a safe and restful break when the holidays arrive.
