What a Semester!!! Amazing work to all the Junior students this Semester. You have definitely earned your holidays.
Year 7 Swimming Program took place over the last weeks of Term 2, with all year 7 students given the opportunity to learn water safety and swimming skills. These life skills are crucial in teaching our young people to be safe and confident around the water. Well done all the students who participated and thanks to Ms Gray and Mr Forbes for organising.
Students have been working hard in the classroom to complete Common Assessment Tasks and demonstrate their new knowledge and skills. They have also been getting involved in activities outside the classroom with a wide range of programs, sports and extra curricular opportunities. Cultural Diversity Week in week 9 was a massive success. It included an assembly, parade, quiz and colour run.
7B – Reflections
1000 generations
The 1000 generations program was about growing up and becoming a well-rounded member of society. It told us about the challenges of growing up and how to deal with them. It also gave you an idea of what it is be like to be an adult, as well as being a leader and a role model in your community or school. It was made for students going through hard times. It was also made for students to pursue their dreams, goals and to be well organized as a person and leader.

Cultural Diversity

Cultural diversity is about all the cultures and traditions from all around the world and how they represent their country. Doing activities like dancing, signing, storytelling and sharing food for all the people to experience was very successful. Reservoir High School did a whole-school assembly where each country was called up to do what they rehearsed and show it to the entire school. It was probably one of my favourite assemblies at Reservoir High School so far.

Colour Run / Cultural Parade

As a Year 7 for my first colour run it was amazing, I had lots of fun and I got completely covered in chalk. One of my memories is me, Laylah and Arianna took a great photo. I also had a good timeduring Culture Week. I was a part of the First Nations group, getting my face painted with traditional dots which was really cool!.

Colour Run
As a member of the Year 8 Student Representative Council, on Friday, June 19 this semester, I enjoyed throwing vibrant colours on my peers. Bombarding everyone with colour was hilarious and I enjoyed being alongside my other SRCs, like Lincoln and Meagan. Seeing everyone with smiles on their faces brought me more joy and laughter. The colour run was such a pleasurable experience for everyone, as It made me realise how lucky I am to be at Reservoir High School. Because Reservoir isn’t just a place for amazing education, but it’s a place where happiness is cherished through friends, teachers and learning.

Phi’s reflection

A synopsis of Semester 1, especially Term 2 includes the excursion to Latrobe University, where a group of chosen students was offered the opportunity to attend The World Environment presentation and the mentoring program, which many people were allowed to apply for.
To begin with, my personal experience while being a part of these convivial events felt phantasmagorical. I was constantly having fun and felt included. For example, during the excursion to Latrobe University which took place on June 5, I was given the opportunity to listen to a scientist talk in detail about the habitats of bees. I was able to learn about the risks of bees being extinct, which is surprisingly low. Additionally, I was able to learn about different types of bees, such as ground bees, tree bees and a lot about the European honeybee. Later in the day, the group and I were allowed to enter an exhibit, showing us habitats which emus live and teaching us about the different ways people preserve old trees.
Last, but not least, an extremely fun event that took place in Term 2 and will continue into Term 3 is RAISE mentoring. This event includes the volunteering of mentors and mentees. After many Reservoir teachers, for example, Mr. Mueller, put much diligence and persistence into advertising the event, it was successful. Luckily, I was given the opportunity to be one out of the fifteen mentees to participate. During this event, I got to meet many people, who weren’t just my age, but also older. This allowed me to learn a lot about university, jobs and other responsibilities that I may worry about. Additionally, the event allowed me to feel heard and have fun during the periods where I would talk to my allocated mentor one-on-one. It was a fun experience meeting everyone at the event and being able to have a little snack afterwards!
Overall, that’s my synopsis of Semester 1.

Lily’s Reflection

This semester has been quite busy, but also very fun. Here are some of my experiences from this past term.
Recently we had our cultural parade, as part of Cultural Diversity Week, where students come together to celebrate their backgrounds, with traditional clothing, items, flags and many other things. There are always so many countries participating in the parade with some singing and dancing too. It’s super fun to either participate or watch!
Another part of Cultural Diversity Week is the colour run, which was a highlight for many students. Running around the oval getting covered head-to-toe in colour with my friends is something truly special that I’m sure everyone enjoyed!
One of my other personal highlights was when RHS hosted the “Best of British”, the biggest bands extravaganza concert ever hosted by our school. There were over 25 bands, from many schools from all over the place, even stretching as far as Keilor. With a sold-out crowd, the energy was amazing! The night seemed to go on forever and was a huge success! I loved singing with my bandmates, and I know we’re all really proud of ourselves! Congratulations to everyone who performed on the night!

RAISE Mentoring
RAISE is a fun, chill and welcoming experience where you get to play mini games, chat with your mentor and enjoy some good food with friends. Every Thursday, during period 3, right after recess, the group meets in the library where everyone connects. We usually kick things off with a game to get the energy up, and then move into conversations with our mentor about our strengths, goals and what we want to improve. You can also spend time with your mentor, playing games or talking about anything that’s on your mind. After that, everyone comes back together in the middle of the room to share snacks, like chips and hang out as a group.
In RAISE we talk about our feeling and what we want to do with our future. It has been very beneficial for me because I learned how to ask somebody for help when I need it and whom to ask. We also talked about how to face challenges head-on and never give up. Our mentors are volunteers who give up part of their day to help us. This is a community where every voice matters. Overall, RAISE is a mix of fun, support and community that makes Thursdays something to look forward to. We highly recommend giving it a go.
