Grades 3 and 4
After all our work with multiplication and division, we are now starting to learn about fractions. We have jumped straight in to look at equivalent fractions - to do this we have used fraction walls. This is a visual representation showing how we can fit 2 halves into one whole or 16, sixteenths into a whole. Students can see that 8 sixteenths or 4 eighths is equal to a half or that 3 sevenths is the same as 6 fourteenths.
We then looked at where fractions are often used - in cooking. We gave the students some flat bread that they cut into a fraction. They then had to put spreads on different pieces. They were able to then trade equivalent fractions. They all had a great time especially when they could eat their fraction pieces.
This term has been the worst…..just kidding it has been the exact opposite!
Grade 3/4 had a blast to the past to the history of the Olympics. Then we started our projects. First we had to choose a country then the work began. We worked hard on our project and presented it on Monday. I can’t believe how much we were able to squeeze into this term.
Some of the highlights I think stood out to me was Wizard of Oz because I was lucky enough to be chosen to be in it! It was so fun to rehearse with older kids and interact with them.
There was also District Athletics. We all tried our best but not all of us made it but some of us made it to the next level so well done to those people.
And how could I forget 3/4 HOOP TIME! That was super fun. I loved my team.
Some other fun events we did this term are book week, Books to Life - That bird has arms and Green and Gold Day.
I think it's safe to say that this term has been great. I hope, I mean I know, that term 4 will be even better!
