What's happening?

Look at Our New Playground!

Isn't our new playground fantastic? Students and staff have been eagerly watching the progress of the playground and are so excited to have it now open for use. Today classes had the opportunity to test it out during the day before the fence is removed. We are really looking forward to next term where it will be open from the first day.

Working Bee

Last weekend we held a working bee and were able to get lots of jobs done. Mulch was moved to the front of the school and our volunteers helped to weed the garden beds and spread the mulch. Many of our plants also received a trim. Another group sorted all of the old equipment which had been stored in the lunch shed and relocated this to be used at playtimes and in PE lessons.

A huge thanks goes to the following staff and families for coming along and helping with this.

Festival of Music

The Primary Schools Festival of Music is an iconic South Australian tradition which engages students in artistic excellence, cultural diversity and social inclusion through performance in Music and the Arts. This year's Festival of Music included the ABBA song ‘Waterloo’, to mark 50 years since ABBA had won Eurovision with that song. It was a spectacular event that our students enjoyed being a part of.

Our Senior and Junior Choirs both represented our school at this year's Festival of Music. The Junior Choir signed the National Anthem in Auslan, opening one of the concerts. On the same night, one of our year 6 students Anika, also acted as a choreography leader. The Junior Choir also performed a variety of songs in the foyer prior to another concert. The Senior Choir then had their turn to shine last week, singing with about 300 other students. We are very proud of how they all represented our school and could see their enjoyment during and after their performances.

Thank you to our Arts teacher Belinda Mentha for working with these groups and offering them such great opportunities.

SAPSASA Update

Recently we had a group of students who qualified to participate in the Athletics State Carnival. Tex and Ranoday represented the Salisbury East District in the relax team, Archer participated in shot put and Alex competed in the discus as well as a number of running events. Congratulations to all of these students who once again represented our school and the district well at a SAPSASA event. A special mention to Alex who placed 2nd in discus and is now hoping to be selected to participate in the Nationals.

Alex and Jazzy also tried out for the district AFLW team recently. Alex has been selected in this team and Jazzy will be a reserve. We wish them both good luck when they participate in the Salisbury East District team in term 4.

Supporting Student Learning

Throughout the school day, we strive to provide the best possible environment for our students to learn which includes consistent routines, high expectations and predictable timetables. Teachers and SSOs work hard at the beginning and end of each day to support students in becoming and remaining engaged so they don't miss any of the important routines and information that are provided at these times. To help support this, we ask parents and families to remain outside the buildings until the 3.00pm bell goes. At this time, we welcome you into the learning spaces to collect your children and support them in finishing their day positively.

Safety in the Carpark

At the end of the day, students are often eager to find their friends and families and forget about their own safety. Please remind your child to walk around the carpark and keep to the crossing by the gates. With the mulberries ripening on our tree, we know many students like to come and pick these after school too. We ask that students and adults stay out of this area as it is a safety issue, particularly when climbing the tree. As a school, we are also using the fruit from our trees to support some of our wellbeing programs across the school.

Drakes Community Dollars

Did you know that Drakes run a program which can support our school?

We are now a member of the Drakes Community Dollars program which was established as a way for Drakes to regularly give back to the local groups which operate in the community.

Simply download the Drakes app and connect to Para Vista Primary School. When you shop at participating Drakes supermarkets, scan the barcode on your app and for every $2 spent in store, 1c will be accredited to our school fund.
