Library News
As we enter our final term, the library team continue to run our fun and inclusive activities and events as well as planning for future ones later in the term.
Over the last fortnight, the library has seen a flurry of activity with the annual giant chess competition running from the end of Week 1 until the start of Week 3. Almost thirty students and teachers participated in the competition with giant chess games being played each recess and lunchtime. Crowds of enthusiastic spectators supported their friends and teachers each recess and lunchtime with the biggest crowd turning up to see the match of the week featuring Year 11 student Kiiteh Hanzinikolas and our College principal Mr. Dedes. In a convincing manner and with a big group of supporters, Kiiteh took home the victory in the final minutes of lunchtime.
Week 4 we geared up for a week of Halloween inspired activities and all things spooky. We encouraged students to pop into the library and participate in one of our events and pick up a scary book from our display.
The library team are also preparing for our annual Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge luncheon, and we look forward to celebrating with all the students who successfully completed the challenge and, in doing so, gaining the educational benefits of regular and sustained reading.
As a librarian there is nothing more satisfying than turning a reluctant reader into an avid one. If you are having trouble getting your young person to read, then please encourage them to visit the library and to reach out to a library team member. As J.K. Rowling says, ‘If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book’. The library team are eager to find that right book for all our students whether they are regular readers or reluctant ones.
We hope you enjoy the photos taken throughout our giant chess Competition and our Halloween display.
