NATURE PLAY & CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

Last week, Bush Kinder was closed, so we went on a puddle hunt around the school instead. With the recent wild weather, it wasn’t hard to find many muddy puddles!

At first, a lot of the kinders were hesitant, but once one child took the plunge, they all joined in. There were no rules—they could get as muddy as they wanted, nothing was off-limits. Soon, children were belly sliding, butt scooting, and flipping through the mud.

Nature play and playing in muddy puddles is such an important part in childhood development.

Being largely unstructured and child-led, nature play encourages children to explore their emotions and imagination and to develop autonomy and decision making skills.
