This year, Sacred Heart has been chosen to participate in the Emerging Leaders Forum. The program is an initiative of the Victorian Department of Education and facilitated by Asia Education Foundation at the University of Melbourne. The program is designed for Victorian students in Years 5 & 6, offering chances for them to connect and collaborate with peers from around the world. Students have had opportunities to explore intercultural communication, collaboration, and leadership.
Students from Year 5 & 6 had the opportunity to send through an Expression of Interest which outlined why they would like to participate in the Emerging Leaders forum, the leadership qualities they possess and their understanding about what it means to be a global citizen. We had a lot of interest in the program and four Year 5 and four Year 6 students were chosen to represent Sacred Heart. The students are; Layla Margarit (5T), Rhiannon Flower (5K), Madison Chandler (5K), Oscar Pratt (5K), Rose Castro (6K), Ishaan Shetty (6A), Elisha Farrugia (6K) and Millie Sciberras (6K).

Throughout the program students engaged in a range of activities and regular breakout rooms via Zoom in small groups with peers from a range of other schools and countries. A face-to-face session will be held in Term 4 at the University of Melbourne which will bring together students from the Emerging Leaders Forum (Year 5 & 6) and the Junior Leaders Forum (Year 7 & 8). This day will connect students with youth leaders and changemakers through keynote presentations, interactive and collaborative activities and networking opportunities.
All students did a wonderful job engaging in the online sessions and representing our school and are very excited to attend the Forum at University of Melbourne next term.
Keeping our children safe online
We are currently trailing Classwize, this is a digital wellbeing or internet safety program that teachers will now begin to use. This program has been adopted by many other schools at both primary and secondary schools. Classwize will help teachers reduce digital distractions and maximise academic learning time for your child, as well as create a much safer online environment for all Sacred Heart students.
