Student Voice : Springvale Campus
We can't believe it's already Week 6 of our final term this year. These past few weeks have been busy with many exciting activities! The FLC has been welcoming the new students for next year through the Foundation Transition Program, and we’re sure everyone has been very welcoming. In the SLC, the Grade 5s have the amazing opportunity to attend a Taster Day at Westall Secondary College to get a feel for what their high school classes will be like! The SLC students have also been striving to meet their goals in Maths and Reading and have been smashing them in the process! In Projects, they have learnt about money and how to manage it wisely in a learning experience called "Market Place."
Again, we can't believe it's already Week 6, and we can't wait to see what's next!
Did you know that taxes take up a LOT of your money? The SLC students have learned this the hard way by taking part in a "Market Place" experience during Projects. They’ve taken on the life of a regular adult, earning money through real-life jobs and incomes. But with all the pros and some cons. The students have to pay taxes every week and rent for wherever they sit, with prices varying from place to place.
A special part of this experience is that they get to learn about entrepreneurs and how they create products to meet consumers' needs and demands (which, by the way, sounds French because it is!). The students have even become their own entrepreneurs by designing board games, which they’ll be pitching to the JLC. We can't wait to see what innovative ideas they come up with! And the cherry on top is that with all their hard-earned money, they can buy items at the weekly auctions. Isn't that just fabulous? That is not all, though, as they will be doing many more exciting things in the future.
In Mathematics, the SLC students' focus is to build their confidence in their multiplication skills during fluency. Not only will this help them apply their multiplication facts, it will also help them improve their division facts which will definitely come in handy when they start their division teaching and learning cycle next week. Their sense of purpose and dedication to learning has pushed them to achieve their goals. Every student has improved so much and have been smashing their goals!
In Reading, the SLC students have begun a new and exciting teaching and learning cycle. This cycle spotlights the ability to identify different text types, the author’s purpose, and the intended audience. They are observing and examining specific types of texts, such as informative, persuasive, and, last but not least, imaginative pieces. This helps the SLC students recognize the deliberate choices authors make to innovate and achieve their purpose.
The Year 5's were given the exciting opportunity to be able to go to Westall Taster Day! Sorry Year 6's. Since they will be preparing for high school, Westall Secondary College was kind enough to offer schools to come to their school to give them a taste of what their high school classes would be like. The Grade 5's were able to try out different learning programs in depth to see if they would like to study in the future. There were so many classes available for them to try, such as learning how to make coffee (Cafe), cooking, STEM, aviation, maths and coding!
The 2025 FLC Transition program has been going really well. The future Foundation students are experiencing their first time being in primary school and are enjoying a taste of what it is like to be a primary school student. The first week, the kids participated in some arts and crafts by creating a beautiful portrait picture of themselves and placing it in their new classrooms. They also engaged in some alphabet activities to improve their literacy and get them prepared for next year's learning cycles. The future Foundation students have been having a lot of fun and have made some new friends during these sessions. We hope they love Springvale Rise Primary School as much as we do!
This term has flown by and it will keep flying by due to the amount of special events we have coming up. The SLC will be having a blast for the rest of the term. In Week 8 they will be competing in their long awaited Springvale Cup, in which teams will be playing soccer, netball and other games while competing with the Heights Campus to win the trophy! The Year 6's will also be having the best time of their lives! They have Graduation, the Year 6 Celebration and their Orientation Day coming. So this is why everybody should work hard and try their best so our teachers can prepare more and more exciting events for everyone.
