MUST READ - Important information regarding the School Saving Bonus
Welcome to Ivanhoe Primary School
It's hard to believe that we are getting close to the end of another school year. Here are some cover shots from back issues of Inside Ivanhoe in 2024.
Next week we hope to announce our House Captains and Vice Captains for 2025. These student leaders are expected to develop leadership skills, represent the school as well as promote school values.
House Captains and Vice Captains are expected to model appropriate behaviours. They can help students participate in activities and understand their rights and responsibilities as citizens of IPS.
House Captains and Vice Captains are expected to set an example to younger children, to embody the values that the school holds dear and to contribute to the wider community. They are expected to help the younger children, both in the classroom and at playtimes.
Summer Strings Celebration Concert
The Strings Program has been a part of IPS for 28 years. Started by Liz Bonetti the program has gone from strength to strength – even online through COVID there were very few students who withdrew from the program. In 2023 Liz passed the conductors baton to Margaret Butcher who stepped seamlessly into the role of maestro and has continued a fine tradition of excellence.
The video from this weeks' Summer Strings Celebration Concert showcases 114 IPS musicians, from beginner to accomplished, and includes a beautiful piece from their teachers. Well worth watching to the end to see and hear The Orchestra and Corelli Strings perform Jingle Bells.
The success of the program is evidenced by these children becoming fine musicians.
The Strings program also helps students to foster a love and understanding of music, develop skills in ensemble playing as well as building strong friendships across year levels. Gaining confidence in performance is an essential part of musical learning.
IPS School Highlights for the Review
As part of our School Strategic Plan Review, we are inviting parents/carers to identify highlights of Ivanhoe Primary School over the last 4 years (2021-2024).
The leadership team has brainstormed a list from which you can select up to five (5) highlights as well as there is a box at the bottom of the form to add what may have been overlooked. Please use the QR Code or link below to access the for
Sadly only two people have taken advantage of this opportunity in the two weeks it has been open to the community.
When the school review begins in early March there will be invitations to join forums and discussions to assist the school to develop its next School Strategic Plan.

School Saving Bonus - further information
Dear school community
Please take the time to read the attached guide for further help with School Saving Bonus.
At Ivanhoe Primary School you can select to allocate all or part of your $400 to in-store-purchase of uniforms at Noone Imagewear or select and allocate all or part of your $400 to school activities.(camps, excursions, incursions, swimming) This cannot be reversed so please be sure about your choice.
If you have any unspent funds, or the funds you allocate to in-store purchases or online purchases cannot be used, these funds will automatically be available on your child’s school account as an activities credit on 1 July 2025.
We will not automatically allocate your funds to activities unless you action the choice through the portal.
Transition at IPS
As we approach the mid-point of term 4 the thoughts of our students inevitably turn to ‘what happens next year’?
For some this is a matter-of-fact process that barely raises a mention, for others it can be a more challenging time with the various uncertainties that come about.
Term 4 sees a structured approach to the transition process being implemented by our teaching staff. Your child may well have already shared news of taking part in activities across their whole year level or collaborating with students in another class on a project. As the weeks go by they will also be visiting their ‘buddy classes’ in both the year level above and below them, this allows your child to ask questions, visit the learning spaces and hear from the students in that year level about what they can expect.
Every student also has the opportunity to complete a ‘who I Work well with’ template. This gives your child the chance to share five other students from their year level who they think would be a go match for their 2025 classroom.
This information is included in the process of class creation to make sure that every student has at least one of their choices in their classroom. Teaching staff use a range of other information when generating these classes, including, academic and social profiles, gender, support requirements, incidents of any student conflict, classroom observation of learning habits and the overall make up of a classroom to support all the learners within it.
Our transition process will culminate with a ‘meet the teacher’ day on December 10th. This is the day that statewide transition occurs so our current grade 6 students will be visiting their high school, and we will be welcoming our 2025 foundation cohort. All students will spend a block of time with their 2025 class and teacher, this time will be spent focusing upon building relationships, collaborative activities and preparing for the new school year.
The process that we have in place is both robust and supportive of our student needs and we look forward to both the challenge and excitement of the time ahead.
Italian Day is the 5th of December
Thank you to families that have already placed their order for Italian Day .
If you are wanting to place an order please do so through the My School Connect APP.
It is going to be a very busy and Annette and staff will be very busy in the kitchen preparing. Receiving your order soon will ensure there is enough food for all.
End of Year Picnic
2025 School Council Election
Elections for School Council are held in February each year with the Council of this school comprised of 10 members elected by parents of the school and 4 members of staff. The Principal is a member by right of office.
We have been fortunate over the years to have maintained a strong and engaged School Council. Every year, half the School Council is renewed creating room for new community members to join. Likewise, Sub Committees of School Council open their doors to new members. Our Sub Committees of School Council in 2025 include: Finance, Education, Facilities, Out of School Hours Care and Fair & Fundraising.
The School Council is responsible for assisting the Principal and staff in supporting the school, in particular it is responsible for offering advice on the school’s educational programs, administration and expenditure of school funds as set out in the annual budget.
The overseeing of the long-term development of the school and the current maintenance of facilities is a task that rests primarily with the Principal and School Council.

Please consider nominating, or agreeing to be nominated, for School Council. We meet on Wednesdays and the proposed dates for 2025 are on the Some Dates For The Fridge page in this edition of Inside Ivanhoe as well as below.
* 6.30 pm correspondence tabled for 7.pm meeting start.
Thank you to those parents who will have completed their 2 years or final term of office on School Council. Jing Ren Wu, Anton Wolmarans, Justine Convery, Mehran Ahmadi, and teachers Marie Morrow and Miranda Stott.
Drive slowly, sensibly and safely around school
Avoid making U-turns and using neighbours driveways to beat the traffic during drop off and pick up times. Lowe Street extremely tight and not suitable for drivers to turn at the bottom. Aisla Grove has a turning circle towards the end of the street and is much safer for pedestrians providing drivers do the right thing.
Unfortunately, some drivers are not heeding the call so we have asked Banyule City Council to step up their patrols and help keep our students safe.
2025 Class Placement
We have almost finalised our teaching team for next year and we hope to be able to publish a list of teachers and support staff very shortly in Inside Ivanhoe.
Please remember that teachers work on the very complex task of creating classes. Teachers and education support staff have input into how classes are made up, taking into consideration students telling us who they work well with in the classroom.
That information, along with information from reports etc, ensure classes are inclusive and fair. We have highly skilled, passionate and professional teachers who care about student learning and wellbeing. Whilst we understand that parents know their children, we ask you to trust in our professional expertise. We therefore cannot take requests for particular teachers, but please rest assured that we all work together so that each and every child gets the best possible placement.

Finally...
Each term the team from C2C come to IPS and work in our front garden and the external grounds of the school. They are very proud of the work that they do for us and I was able to tell them how much our community appreciate their work.
They were thrilled when I told them we wanted to put a photo of the team in the newsletter. If you see them in the front garden please stop and say hello.
