Step Up

Unit 3/4 Outdoor and Environmental Studies

During the first week of Year 12 Step Up, our incoming Unit 3/4 Outdoor and Environmental Studies students got a taste of caring for Outdoor Environments by creating our class set of terrariums. The terrariums will be looked after by the students over the year, showing them first-hand how sustainable environments work, and the responsibility associated with caring for a living organism. The students have begun learning about how the Australian environment has been shaped by the Earth's movements over the past 6.5 million years, our unique weather patterns and how our plants and animals have benefited from their biological isolation. The students will soon begin delving into the perceptions, practises and impacts that Indigenous people have on Country in preparation for our first excursion occurring in Term 1 of next year.  I have been very impressed with the work ethic, and positive outlook on learning possessed by the class so far, and am excited to lead this group into the New Year.
