2025 Student Body President Election

On Thursday and Friday the 28th and 29th of November, Tarneit Senior College held the annual elections for our two Student Leaders in 2025. Previously known as College Captains, we had seven incredible students raise their hands and campaign to become our newly titled Student Body Presidents for the 2025 school year.

On Thursday, Kaylee Gleeson, Mariam Amzar, Hamnah Chaudhary, Udoka Okpara, Olivia Lee, Erasti Kanellopoulou and Nyapath Malek delivered their campaign speeches in the main courtyard in front of their fellow students and staff, with their speeches being heard across the entire campus! Each student worked hard and delivered a passionate, inspiring and heartfelt speech that represented the very best of our school community, and our college congratulates them on this remarkable achievement.

Following the speeches, over 300 students and staff visited the College Stadium during the breaks on Thursday and Friday, with the stadium having been transformed into an election polling station, and cast their votes for the students they wished to elect as their Student Body Presidents for 2025. The College would like to extend a massive thanks to the staff who worked hard to make the election process happen, as well as the students and staff who gave up their time to vote and participate in shaping our school community for next year.

Additionally, we would like to thank Cherub Sandhu, Arnav Rai, Yati Tyagi, Adeena Qazi, Jasveen Kaur, Simarpreet Sangha and Yashika Garg, who volunteered to help assist in the election process and supervised our staff to ensure that the process was fair and reflected the will of our student body!

Following the elections, a team of students and staff counted the votes together:

Vote Counting Process

The vote counting for the student body presidential election followed a structured and methodical approach. There were four ballot boxes, with a separate tally sheet assigned to each box. Three students - myself, Cherub and Simar, were responsible for supervising the student vote count, and two teachers handled the staff vote count.

The process involved votes being read aloud by one person, while a teacher and a student tallied them. Each vote was also checked by every student and teacher in the room to avoid errors. Teachers and students supervised each other during the process to ensure fairness and accuracy, with all data from the votes then transferred to a document to consolidate and verify the results given to our College principal.

At the end of the count, there were minor discrepancies between the teacher and student tallies. These differences were recorded, with the total difference being four votes, but ultimately did not impact the final result. All participants agreed on and confirmed the two leading candidates who were elected as our 2025 Student Body Presidents.
