Camp Rubicon

Year 10 & 11

On the 18th of November, the Engagement Team rewarded 43 of our Year 10 and 11 students for their consistent demonstration of the college values by taking them on a 5-day adventure camp at Rubicon in Thornton, Victoria. Whilst taking in the incredible scenery of Northeast Victoria, our students worked together in small groups to develop their leadership and teamwork skills through daily activities led by Rubicon Outdoor School teachers and TSC staff.

From mountain bike riding through winding trails around Lake Eildon to scaling the rocky faces of the Cathedral Ranges, staff and students pushed themselves out of their comfort zones to achieve their personal best each day. The incredible summer weather made the breathtaking views even more spectacular and was the perfect accompaniment to the many water-based activities we experienced. On the water, students demonstrated bravery and camaraderie as they dove into the Goulburn River whilst swimming and as they navigated their way on canoes through rapids on the Big River.

Each night, students strengthened their newfound friendships and strengthened existing ones by competing in team-based activities, designed to promote leadership and collaboration. From cheering each other on in group karaoke and Just Dance, trying to create the tallest spaghetti and marshmallow towers, or sharing experiences with each other, our students developed a tight-knit community over the week.

Even though there were a few hiccups along the way, and at times people felt like giving up, each student pushed themselves beyond what was expected and demonstrated resilience by actively participating in their teams. The encouragement that every single student demonstrated towards their group members was truly heartwarming.

Camp Rubicon was an incredible experience for everyone who attended and was more than just an outdoor activity camp. It was a chance to build new friendships, strengthen our school community, and create positive memories that will last a lifetime.
