Yellow Arrow, Leadership Incursion

Year 10 Active Girls Class

On October 29th, the Year 10 Active Girls Class had an insightful incursion with Yellow Arrow, an organisation who focusses on the development of leaders to take reflective action! They regularly support leadership programs and provide experiential workshops, keynote presentations, peer-mentoring, and online curriculums to support leaders to make positive change.

Facilitators from Yellow Arrow worked with students throughout the day to explore what it means to be a leader, inviting students to reflect on their personal leadership styles. The facilitators tailored the incursion specifically to empower the students. The DISC Behavioral assessment tool, often used by larger organizations to improve teamwork, communication, and productivity in the workplace, was explored. Students used the tool to determine their own character traits and personality types, reflecting on what this meant in a collaborative setting. Students learned how to best coordinate, support and communicate with team members. The program upskilled students and provided them with opportunities for personal development, encouraging their confidence and ability to take action as leaders!

As far as societal outcomes from a school's initiative, this is one of the most impactful we've seen. From our conversations with the young women, it was clear that they could very easily have grown into women who never had an experience where they felt comfortable being active or having a supportive community in which they could try new things or play sport - and this has serious health, mental health and community outcomes. Yet with this one subject, their view of their own capacity to be active, supported and independent has been able to turn around dramatically. It is initiatives like these that are the foundation of positive change in often difficult lives. We just wanted to congratulate you on a program that is evidently having a great impact!
