Principal's Report
Dear Parents, Staff, and Students,
As we conclude another remarkable year at Tarneit Senior College, I am proud to reflect on our collective achievements and the extraordinary journey we have shared in 2024.
VCE Results
I am delighted to share our outstanding VCE results for 2024. This year, our students have once again demonstrated exceptional academic prowess and commitment to their studies. Our key achievements include:
Dux of the College: Mananshi Sharma, achieving an impressive ATAR of 96.7
Three additional students achieving ATARs above 90:
- Devarsh Patel
- Sulaima Atif
- Shruthi Sivakumar Sujatha
A remarkable total of 23 students achieving ATARs above 80, the highest in our school's history
These results are a testament to the hard work of our students, the dedicated support of our staff, and the collaborative learning environment we have fostered.
Graduation Celebration
Our graduation ceremony was a transformative celebration of student success, honouring approximately 340 students across multiple award categories. We recognised students for:
- Academic Excellence Awards
- Community and Leadership Awards
- Subject-Specific Awards
The event was a powerful testament to our students' diverse talents, with packed stadium seating filled with proud families. Many parents shared deeply moving stories, particularly those marking their family's first generational graduation.
Year 10 & 11 Awards
Our awards ceremony during the step-up week was a vibrant celebration of student achievement. We presented awards recognising:
- Subject-Based Academic Excellence
- Engagement Awards
- Community and Leadership Awards
The enthusiastic celebrations and high-achieving results signal a promising trajectory for our future academic outcomes.
Student Leadership Transformation
In a significant development, we transitioned from traditional college captains to a new Student Body President model. Approximately 450 students participated in this democratic process, electing Erasti Kanellopoulou and Nyapath Malek as our inaugural Student Body Presidents. Their leadership promises to catalyse positive change within our student community in 2025. We look forward to further developing our Student Leadership Council in 2025 and providing active ways to incorporate student voice in a range of school improvements and agendas.
Staffing Developments
We are comprehensively staffed for 2025, with minimal staff movement in recent weeks. We are welcoming approximately seven international staff members, with three already integrated and the remaining staff processing their visas and Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registrations. We are very pleased to be able to return to a model where we will have Home Group start each of our days. Home Group will begin at 8.50am every day and be a chance for our students to connect with staff and a range of school initiatives at the start of every day.
Upcoming School Review
Our comprehensive school review is scheduled for Term 1, 2025. This critical process will evaluate our institutional performance and strategic directions, informing our next School Strategic Plan covering 2025-2028. There will be a range of opportunities for all members of our school community to engage with the process and provide a range of feedback.
Acknowledgements
I extend profound gratitude to our entire school community - our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and exceptional students. Your collaborative spirit and commitment have been instrumental in navigating the complexities of educational leadership and driving our collective success.
As we approach the festive season, I want to thank our teaching and education support staff for their unwavering dedication. Your hard work, passion, and commitment have been crucial in supporting our students to achieve these outstanding results.
To our students and families, I wish you a safe, restful, and joyful festive season. May you spend quality time with loved ones and return refreshed and ready for another great year at Tarneit Senior College in 2025.
Warmest regards,
Shane Cole-Hayhow
