It has been a big few weeks for the Foundation students. We participated in the F-2 Athletics carnival, performed at assembly and met our new class and classroom teacher for next year. Congratulations to all the Foundation students who made it through their first year of primary school.
On the 27th of November, year 1/2 students participated in the Stay Late event. This was an exciting opportunity for students to engage in hands-on collaborative activities. Stations included making paper airplanes, minute to win it games and an outdoor game hungry hippos. In inquiry and writing, students have been learning all about the 5 S’s of sun safety – slip, slop, slap, seek and slide. They wrote a persuasive text on why you should do the 5 S’s before going out in the sun.
On Friday, December 6th, we had the pleasure of hosting our Inquiry Unit Project Showcase on Planet Earth & Natural Forces! It was a fantastic way to highlight and celebrate the students’ creativity and learning achievements from Term 4. A big thank you to all parents and guardians for your ongoing support throughout this unit and for attending the showcase to make it such a special event!
The past few weeks have been action-packed and filled with learning and memorable experiences for our 5/6 students! Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Our classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as students completed and published their information reports on various space concepts. These reports showcase the students' research and writing skills.
Meanwhile, students design, paint, and construct projects for our upcoming 5/6 Space Exhibition. From intricate models of solar systems to imaginative recreations of space, the creativity and effort being put into these projects are awesome.
Our end-of-year celebration day at Luna Park was a fantastic success. Students enjoyed thrilling rides, cheerful laughter, and a chance to bond with their peers. We were lucky to avoid the long queues, giving everyone the chance to ride their favorites multiple times. A big thank-you to all the staff and volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly!
Our Lifesaving Excursion to Altona Beach was both educational and fun. Students learned vital water safety skills, including CPR techniques, understanding beach safety signage, and how to act in emergencies. This hands-on learning experience was invaluable, and students walked away feeling more confident about staying safe at the beach.
The Year 5s wrapped up their Bike Education program with a community bike ride around the neighborhood, showcasing their improved skills and road safety knowledge. Well done to all the Year 5s for their commitment and growth throughout this program!
Our Year 6 students are busy preparing for their graduation. They are excited to perform their song and dance and share this special milestone with their families and teachers.
Thank you for your continued support as we head into the final weeks of the year. We look forward to sharing more updates and celebrating the students’ hard work and achievements!
What a busy end to the year in the School Food Garden!
This term We have been learning about different soil types and how soil is formed. Students tried a soil texture test (by feel) and a jar test (by visual observation) to assess what type of soil we have in the garden.
We have also been working hard to get our garden ready for summer by pruning, watering and mulching. We have been planting lots of summer crops such as beans, corn, sunflowers melons and tomatoes. All of these are good choices to grow to at home at this time of year too.
Finally, a big Thankyou to everyone who has offered to help care for the garden and chickens in the holidays.
Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break.
