Principal Report

A report from Acting Principal Erin McNamara

What a term! There has been so much happening over these final weeks with excursions, stay-late, the Messathon, Orientation day and much more!

Messathon:

A big thank you to everyone who attended or supported our Messathon event. We are still calculating the total raised after expenses, but can confirm that we have met the students goal for the Gaga Pits, which will be installed in 2025. The remaining funds will go towards our community chosen projects, with School Council discussing this early next year. A special thank you to parents who made this event possible - Anna, Cleo, Sheridyn and Danielle. Yesterday, our highest fundraisers received their reward of being 'Principal for a Day'. 'Miss Loukia' and 'Mr K' raised $1900 each and were able to spend the day as principals- visiting classrooms, making announcements, giving class rewards and much more. There was even some free ice poles, extra recess and free time for classes under their direction. Well done Loukia and Harry!

Class of 2024 Graduation:

On Monday, we held our Graduation Ceremony at the Moonee Valley Legends room. Thank you to Ashleigh Chisolm and Emily Decis who organised such a great event. It was a fantastic afternoon where the students were celebrated and recognised for their achievements at Aberfeldie. To these students, we wish you farewell and all the best in your future. As you step into the next chapter of your lives, know that you carry with you the skills, values, and friendships you have nurtured here. Below are a few pictures from the evening:

SSV Academic and Sporting Achievement Medal: Henry Reddan

During our Year 6 Graduation Celebration, one student was recognised and celebrated for their exceptional achievements. Henry has demonstrated outstanding dedication not only in their academic pursuits but also in their sporting endeavours. He has shown a consistent commitment to his studies, excelling across multiple learning areas, while also contributing significantly to the sporting life of the school and beyond.

This award, the School Sport Victoria Academic and Sporting Achievement Medal, is a prestigious honour that highlights the remarkable balance of excellence in both the classroom and on the sports field. Henry has represented the school at district, division, regional and state in athletics from years 4-6. He has represented the school at district, division and regional level in cricket. He has been a fantastic House Sports Captain. And also won the Essendon District Football League Under 12s Best & Fairest.

Whether through exceptional leadership in sport, competing at regional and state levels, or participating across a variety of sports, Henry has embodied the true spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, and school pride. In short, this medal recognises a student who excels not only in their own personal achievements but also in the way they inspire and elevate those around them. Congratulations Henry!

School Review:

We recently completed our Department School Review. These reviews occur every four years, with external providers assessing the progress of the school and possible next steps. Our results and improvements over the past four years were highly recognised with Aberfeldie being ahead of the new Victorian mandates and teaching models. We look forward to sharing our next steps with you in the new year.

100 Years- Help Us Celebrate Our School’s Centenary!

Next year marks an incredible milestone—our school’s 100th anniversary! Over the term, we have been holding open community meetings to plan for this year and the celebrations. These occasions will honour our school’s rich history and bring our community together for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. This includes:

  • A 'Back in Time' Day where students will learn about and experience the history of Aberfeldie. This day will occur in Term 1.
  • A Centenary Gala Dinner in Term 2. This will be for current and past students, parents and staff of Aberfeldie.
  • A Centenary Fete in Term 4, including a history exhibition and the digging up of the time capsules.
  • An ongoing Centenary Newsletter, led by our newly appointed student Digital Media Team.
  • A Centenary Assembly to acknowledge our vast history.
  • A new Aberfeldie Centenary Book, currently being authored by Nick Field.
  • Collaborative art and fundraiser pieces to commemorate this important milestone.

To make these events truly unforgettable, we need your help! Unfortunately, these events can only occur with community help and support. We’re looking for volunteers to assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of the Gala Dinner and Fete. Whether you can contribute time, expertise, or ideas, your involvement will be vital to making our centenary celebrations a success. If you are interested in being part of these events, please fill out this form and we will be in contact in the new year.

As we prepare for the holidays, I encourage our students, staff and community to rest, recharge, and cherish the Summer break with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming you all back next year for Aberfeldie' s Centenary year.

Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and relaxing holiday season.
