Community Working Bee and Year 1 Planting Day
Thanks to the incredible efforts of our school community, last Sunday’s working bee was a huge success! With many families pitching in, we managed to mulch the area, complete the veggie patch planting, and prepare for our upcoming orchard installation.
The area is looking fantastic, so be sure to swing by and take a look! A big thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible—your hard work is truly appreciated and will benefit our students and school community for years to come. A special thank you to Blair Philips, Ross Gibson, John Mitchell and Tiff Campbell for organising and driving this space.
Last Friday when our Year 1 students took part in a special Planting Day with the help of parent volunteers. The students eagerly dug into the garden beds, planting seeds and seedlings while learning about the stages of plant growth and the essentials plants need to thrive. A big thank you to the parents who joined us—it was a fantastic day of learning, and our garden is looking wonderful thanks to your support!
If you’d like to be part of this ongoing project, please let Jo Earle know.
Celebrating Two-Star Sustainability at Ocean Grove Primary School
We are excited to announce that Ocean Grove Primary School has been awarded the Waste Star by Resource Smart Schools!
This recognition celebrates the dedication of our entire school community, with a special acknowledgment of our Sustainability Student Leaders for 2023: Hattie, Ada, and Quinn.
Throughout our journey, we have implemented a waste management strategy across classrooms, gardens, and office spaces. Students at all levels have learned and embedded the principles of recycling, upcycling, and reusing materials.
The introduction of 'Nude Food Tuesday' has been particularly successful, with students enthusiastically preparing waste-free lunches and encouraging their parents to minimise packaging.
What is the Resource Smart School Star Progression?
Stars are obtained through the completion of Modules and meeting benchmarks for resource use and is valid for four years.
Schools receive their first Star once their Core Module is certified by Sustainability Victoria. Schools can progress from 1 Star up to 5 Stars and move towards becoming a Leadership School. Each of the 5 Stars has specific requirements for completion. Schools must complete additional actions in the Modules and meet and maintain resource benchmarks.
