State Athletics Championships
Wednesday last week OGPS had five students represent us at the State Athletics Championships in Melbourne. This is an absolutely fantastic achievement by the students who were racing and jumping against the best students from their age group in Victoria.
All our girls competed so well on a long drawn out day that say a brief thunder storm put a halt to competition for 30 minutes!
The girls results were as follows;
Mia-Rose J ran in the 100m and 200m qualifying for both of her finals (4th fastest in the 100m) meaning she was one of the 8 fastest students in Victoria for her age group in both the 100m and 200m!
In her final she finished 5th in the 200m and 5th in the 100m. What an amazing effort.
Meave B-L qualified for the high jump final by winning the WMR high jump a few weeks ago. Again, this result means that Meave is in the top 8 best high jumpers for her age group in Victoria!
Meave jumped really well and finished 7th overall. What a great achievement!
Girls 11 year old 4x100m relay – Meave B-L, Parker C, Zarah G and Chloe B had a few nervous moments before their qualifying heat as the thunderstorm hit the track moments before the girls were due to run their heat.
This didn’t put the girls off who finished 2nd in their heat to qualify for the final. In the final they came up against some really tough competition, but held their own to finish 6th overall meaning they are officially the 6th fastest relay team in Victoria for their age group! Amazing girls!
What a fantastic achievement by all five girls. You all should be very proud of yourselves and the effort you have put in to achieve these results. A big thankyou to all of the parents for supporting the girls on their journey, I know there were quite a few nerves from you all as well.
