School Sport Victoria recently staged the school athletics State finals at Lakeside Stadium.
Three students, Oliver Gee (Year 7), Alex Nikolarakos (Year 9) and Lucca Strickland (Year 12) qualified for this competition.
Schools from all across Victoria were represented, and with hundreds of the best Victorian school athletes competing over the full day of track and field events, it was a very busy place to be!
It was a fabulous day for the competition, with bright sunshine adding to the overall positive vibe at the stadium. Everywhere you looked there were athletes lining up, warming up, assessing their competition and/or shaking off all the nerves that come at such an event!
Our students were fabulous ambassadors for BSC, their sportsmanship really shone through! Lucca Strickland placed in the top ten for his age group, competing in Javelin, while Alex and Oliver outdid themselves on the track and in long jump.
They can all be really proud of their efforts - both in competition and away from the track and field.
Alex Nikolarakos
Year 9
I went on my 100-metre sprint and 200 sprint and shotput and long jump. I saw all the people doing their sports. I was with my Dad and Jarrod.
I came first in three events, shotput, 200metre sprint and 100 [metre sprint] and came 4th in long jump. It was fun and it was hot too. I want to tell Jarrod, I really want to go to the Olympics.
Oliver Gee
Year 7
On October 21st I went to state athletics at Lakeside Stadium. I competed in long jump and got a personal best jump of 5.18 metres. That got me fourth place, but I was only 1 centimetre off from the podium.
I have been doing athletics competitions and training for a while now, and going to State taught me the value of hard work and perseverance.
