Australian Mathematics Competition
Jack Collins
Head of Learning - Mathematics
This year we had 191 students participate in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC).
This competition is a fantastic way to engage with challenging mathematical concepts, testing student’s problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively within the world of Mathematics. I commend all the students who participated in the competition: it shows a commitment to the school values of excellence, achievement and persistence.
Two students in Year 8, Owen Hughes and Joe Symonds, received a High Distinction in the competition - placing them in the top 3% of students in the region. Owen had the added honour of receiving the highest score across all year levels in our school.
Over 27% of our students earned a Credit in the AMC this year. On top of this, 12% received the outstanding result of a Distinction (placing them in the top 20% of students in the region). The students who earned a distinction are listed below:
The AMC runs every year and is a great opportunity to challenge yourself and gain valuable exam-like experience in Mathematics.
Please feel free to email myself or chat with your Maths teacher if you are keen to participate or see the types of questions found in the AMC.
