Young Men Grow
Derek Glennie
Middle School Leader
A group of Year 9 boys have been participating in a pilot program called The Men's Project.
The Men's Project, led by Jesuit Social Services (JSS), is an evidence-base program that has been funded by the federal government to develop and promote healthy masculinities in schools.
Led by JSS, and partnered with Merri-bek Youth Services (Oxygen) and Northside Boulders, students meet twice a week over 6 weeks. Brendan, Kesh, Jonni and Atticus, with Derek Glennie, Jeremy Fiske and Claudia Johnson from BSC, engage with students with activities, teamwork games and group discussions.
A unique aspect of this venture is the use of bouldering skills as a physical challenge and metaphor for the in-class learning.
Shout-out to all involved, especially the young men themselves!
Special thanks to Jeremy Fiske for providing photographs.
