Opportunity at MTC
Violet Cochrane Baker
Year 9
In the recent school holidays, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a week-long scholarship course with the Melbourne Theatre Company.
It was an unforgettable experience where I got to work alongside a group of people, all around my age and all from different parts of Victoria.
Each day we learned new things - whether it was developing stage presence, learning to be collaborative, or finding the confidence to perform in front of an audience. We spent time learning how to communicate effectively, how to listen and respect each other's ideas, and how to work together as a large team to bring our vision to life.
By the end of the week, we had created an entire performance. The final show was such a rewarding experience, but for me the best part of the entire course was connecting with people who shared the same passion and interests as I do.
I walked away not just with new skills but with new friendships that I hope will last long after the course ended.

The MTC Youth Scholarship is a life-changing week of drama workshops at Melbourne Theatre Company. The course provides an opportunity for young people with limited access to the arts to learn and develop drama skills, gain confidence, self-awareness and self-expression whilst building friendships and a lifelong affinity for theatre.
