Careers

Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members

Term three looks set to be a very busy term in Careers, with our Year 12 students finalising their post school planning and attending their final interviews. We are also in the final stages of organising Year 12 post school skills courses such as First Aid, RSA, RCG and Barista which are coming up this term and next term at TAFE Narrandera. Our Year 8, 10 and Year 11 cohorts are all in the process of commencing their subject selections for our next year. We also have another round of TAFE Yes program happening at TAFE Narrandera, this time in Metal work which is now full. We also have several excursions coming up for our Year 10 cohort such as the Try a Trade Day in Wagga on the 22nd of August and a Wagga Wagga TAFE tour.

Subject Selections Night – Tuesday 30th July

Thank you to those families, parents, guardians and students who attended last night’s subject selection information night. Ms Maddison presented an informative information session on the NESA requirements of the HSC and what senior years will look like for students and how to go about making informed decisions about selecting subjects for your senior years.

We thank Ness Barton of Training Services for attending the night to explain School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships as well as all the staff who attended to answer parent’s questions on the night.

TAFE YES Construction Program:

This term will be a Metals workshop for our TAFE Yes group at Narrandera TAFE. Thank you to the amazing work and advocacy of Fee Smith at Narrandera TAFE who has managed to get us another round of TAFE YES Courses. This course will commence on the 23rd of August and is already at capacity. I look forward to hearing how our students enjoy this program. Notes will come home soon with all the details.

Year 12 Careers Transition Interviews:

Careers Planning and Transition interviews with all our Year 12 students continue this term and our Year 12 students have a busy final term planned out. I encourage all Year 12 to attend a post school career planning interview, so they can have an idea of the next steps they wish to take in as they transition to post school employment, apprenticeships or training at either TAFE or University.  If parents or carers wish to attend these interviews, please call the careers office and we can schedule a time that suits you.

Australian Defence Force Visit:

On Tuesday 20th August, we will have a visit from the ADF to discuss careers, gap years and entry pathways into the defence force. This talk will be for our Year 10 cohort and interested senior students. Notes will come home soon with more details.

Try a Trade Day & Wagga TAFE Excursion – 22nd August

We also have another great excursion coming up for our Year 10 cohort to explore all the Trades based careers at the Try a Trade Day in Wagga on 22nd August. At this event, many employers across the Riverina will be in attendance with hands on displays and information on all things Trades and Vocational Courses from TAFE and other RTO’s. This is a fantastic showcase of many careers, such as nursing, early childhood education, hairdressing, beauty, electrical, construction, mechanical and many other trades. Notes will come home soon with more details.
