Check in Assessments
Check In Assessments for Years 7, 8 and 9:
The Check-in assessment is an annual online assessment for students in Years 3 to 9 in NSW Public Schools. All students complete a reading test and a numeracy test.
Each test is designed to take up to 60 minutes, however, there is no time limit. Students are allowed extra time if required. Both the reading and numeracy tests have approximately 50 items (including a small number of items for trial purposes).
The Check-in assessment supports the identification of students’ performance in literacy and numeracy and informs next steps in teaching and learning.
They are designed to:
- provide an overview of student learning across a year level
- identify student misconceptions
- support planning and programming
- complement other in-school assessments and teacher observations.
- complement other in-school assessments and teacher observations.
HSC Minimum Standards Year 10
To meet the HSC minimum standard, students need to achieve Level 3 or 4 in short online numeracy, reading and writing tests.
Students can sit the numeracy, reading or writing test from Year 10 up until they reach the HSC minimum standard for that domain.
Students can take each test:
- up to 6 times per year, if you are in Year 12
- up to 4 times per year, if you are in Year 10 or Year 11
- from Year 10 until up to 5 years after starting your first HSC course
- at least 30 calendar days after your last attempt in a test in the same domain.
Year 10 students at NHS will soon sit these tests in Week 5 of Term 3. They will first sit practice tests under test conditions in class in the lead up to the actual tests.
Disability provisions for the HSC minimum standard tests are available for some students with disability.
Some students with a disability who study Life Skills courses may be exempt from meeting the minimum standard to receive their HSC credential.
