Inquiry
Question: “How do we share our planet?” Geography, Ethical Capability and Civics and Citizenship
Global Goal: Through this term’s Inquiry Question, all 17 Sustainable Development Goals will be open to further exploration and discussion.
In Term Four, students will investigate the concept of interconnection within and between places by exploring historical and contemporary examples of interconnection including culture, travel, trade, media, technologies, and consumer culture. By collaboratively investigating a range of case studies, learners will build knowledge and understanding around a vast range of geographical and ethical challenges across time and space and evaluate the ways in which communities have solved problems. We will analyse the different ways in which people participate in their community as active citizens and describe the aspects of place that shape a person’s identity and sense of belonging.
In collaboration with our sister school in New Zealand, Ararira Springs Primary School, we will align our research of the Sustainable Development Goals with contemporary geographical challenges under the project banner ‘Global Goal: Local Action’, presenting our learning within our school partnership as an exhibition.
Key Vocabulary:

How can you support your child’s Inquiry learning at home?
- Discuss with your child common contemporary ethical dilemmas e.g., "Is it okay to use digital technology to enhance a singer's voice?" or “Should we kill insects?”
- When outdoors, point out the main types of natural vegetation you see and talk about the relationship between climate and native/non-native flora.
- Have conversations around the similarities and differences in the types of work and other activities people do in Melbourne with a different type of place in Australia or a place in another country.
