Reading

In Term Three, Level Four learners will be enhancing their understanding of Literacy concepts by unpacking the language features from a variety of non-fiction texts, which entails Biographies and Explanation Texts. We will continue to expand our learners’ understanding of reading through exploring a wide range of non-fiction and fiction texts, with a focus on the different levels of comprehension, literal, inferential and evaluative.

Students will be guided by their personalised CAFE learning goals to engage with a variety of independent and group learning tasks. Weekly Sustained Reading sessions will be held to target and build on the students’ fluency and comprehension.

They will be able to build upon their understanding of Information Reports and transfer their note-taking and paraphrasing skills when researching information for their Biographies and Explanations.

Exposing children to a wide variety of biographies allows them to learn about historical/important figures, find new role models, build their empathy skills and gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures, backgrounds and perspectives.
