News and Notices

Welcome to Term 3!  We are looking forward to another wonderful term of learning across our school.

The year is certainly flying and it is time to enrol children for Prep next year if you haven't already done so.  Activities to prepare for Prep have already commenced.

Awards Ceremony

This week, we held our awards ceremony for Semester 1 student recognition for outstanding levels of effort and achievement for students from Year 3 - 6.  Congratulations to all students who received an award and thank you to the family and friends who joined us to celebrate these accomplishments.

NAIDOC Week

During Week 1, Prep - Year 6 students participated in NAIDOC activities in their classrooms.  On Tuesday 9 July, students in Year 1 - Year 6 attended a NAIDOC Ceremony which included a Welcome to Country by Justine Dillon and dancing by an inspiring group of young people.

Friday 12 July, students in Prep - Year 6 attended a special performance by Majeda Beaty:  Murri Island Girl.  During this performance the richness of both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island cultures was shared through song, dance and stories.  Majeda acknowledged and paid respect to the Koombumerri People as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our school is located.

Progress Interviews

Information regarding the online booking system for progress interviews has been emailed to parents and carers.  Interviews will occur in year level hubs over two evenings and a map showing the location of these hubs will be posted on Class Dojo.

The progress interviews are an important part of our partnership with families, allowing teachers to provide an update about children's learning and next steps for improvement.

Book Character Costume Day

Book Character Costume Day is scheduled for Tuesday 13 August.  Children are encouraged to dress in costume as their favourite book character and are asked to bring the book with them on the day (if they have it).  Costumes need to be sun safe like the school uniform (e.g. no midriff shirts) and closed in shoes are required.

School Student Broadband Initiative

Families with school-aged children who do not have current internet access at home, may be eligible for the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI). To ensure all students have equal opportunity for online learning, the SSBI offers eligible families free NBN broadband access. For more information or to check your eligibility, call the National Referral Centre (Monday to Friday) 1800 954 610 or visit the SSBI website

Good News Story

Last week, a lost cockatiel flew to Mr Ryan for help. With quick thinking from Mr Ryan, Mrs Wild and Mrs Ivers, 'Buddy' has now been reunited with his family from West Burleigh.

School Security

Please help keep an eye on our lovely school. If you see anything concerning when passing by outside school hours, please call School Watch - 13 17 88.

Active School Travel

It's wonderful to see families walking and riding to school.  This is excellent for health and fitness and assists with the traffic and parking at peak times.

Reminders

  • We ask that parents and caregivers please ensure that their children bring their uniform hats to school every day.  This is a mandatory requirement in the interest of sun safety.
  • Label all belongings to enable misplaced items to be promptly returned.  Lost property is near the Tuckshop.
