A message from the Principal

This week our school leadership team have spent some time working on something that sadly feels more relevant than ever.

The upsetting events unfolding in the UK this week show us in the starkest terms how important it is that young people grow up to respect diversity, show empathy and understand the truly damaging nature of racism and prejudice.

One of the key actions in our 2024 school Annual implementation Plan (AIP) is the development of an Anti-Racism Policy and an Action Plan that will allow our school to better celebrate racial diversity, educate young people in this area and respond quickly and effectively to any racist comments or incidents that may occur.

On Tuesday Mel Borella, (our Student Wellbeing Leading Teacher) and I met with a representative from the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) to learn more about the wonderful resources they provide and to formulate a timeline and action plan for how we can make this important work happen and ensure it is visible and supported by families, students and staff.

The 'Standing up to racism' Resources is a collaboration between the CMY and the Education Department and provides us with template action plans, policies, audits, ideas, lesson resources to improve what we do in this area.

We are excited to further learn about and explore these resources and hope to have a policy, action plan and vision to take to School Council for approval prior to the end of the year.

We are inviting parents and carers from school to join us on a working party to make this important work happen.

If you are interested in contributing and adding your voice and input to how we better celebrate diversity, learn about racism and address it as a school then we would love to hear from you. Please fill in the short form below to express interest and we will be in touch to arrange the next steps over the next couple of weeks.
