Library News
The cooler weather has attracted even more students into the warmth and sanctuary of our library.
As part of the library wider reading program, all Year 7 students in their English classes have been working towards successfully completing the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (VPRC). The VPRC encourages students in Years 7 to 10 to read at least 15 books over the year and to record their efforts online. Our school is a proud VPRC school, and we actively encourage all Year 7 students and other keen readers to participate in the challenge. The challenge closes this year on Friday September 6th so there is only a short amount of time to complete the VPRC. Please contact one of the library team if you would like more information on the reading challenge.
To further promote the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge and to support the Year 8 English curriculum, Kate Constable, author of Crow Country, presented to all Year 8 students on Wednesday 24th of July. All Year 8 students are studying Crow Country as a set text in English. This was a unique opportunity for students to gain insights into the novel they are currently studying in English from the author herself. Students should be congratulated on their pleasing behaviour during the presentation, and we look forward to hearing how the sessions enhance students’ insights into the novel.
The library team are looking forward to celebrating Book Week in Week 6. The theme for the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week this year is Reading Is Magic, and we have many fun competitions, activities and displays ready to go for this week.
The library team would like to wish Ms. Montalto all the best as she starts her new position at St. Helena Secondary College and thank her for all her great work in the library over the past six years. We would like to welcome Ms. Mallia and Ms. Nguyen into the library team for the remainder of 2024.
