Hands On Learning
Today was our first day in Hands on Learning, we got to meet each other and we got told the rules and safety instructions. We got to build a mitre cutting board. We also made a connection with the Remus Way Kindergarten and we got two wooden balancing beams to fix. Today Tez (Tahlia) and Michael sanded them and refurbished them, Michael also re-attached some of the pieces with Rose while Tez and Noah attached the wooden parts to the other plank. Ben and Noah oiled the beam again and Ben finished his project. Terrance started building a small greenhouse, we have looked at a new project and we have had new guests coming through our program to look around.

Today in Hands on Learning we went to Bunnings to do a fun activity with Dee, she is the activities organiser. We made a BBQ accessories holder for Father's Day. We first started off by creating a design on a piece of paper then drew it onto the wood once we knew what we wanted. We started to tape it up or got ready to start painting after painting we let the paint dry then we assembled the BBQ accessories box and gave it a coat of maple wood stain. After this activity we all said thank you to Dee and walked to KFC and Hungry Jacks to buy some lunch. We ordered our food, ate it there and then made it back to school to do some gardening with other Hands on Learning members and the other group went to build our next project, the wooden toaster.

Today in Hands On Learning we pulled apart picket fences so we can start on the year 9 project, the Zen garden. We took the nails out of the pickets and restored them further.
We watered the new seedlings and fixed the netting in the school garden.
We are also refurbishing furniture for our local kindergarten. A representative fromr AEG, Trae came to show us and maybe sell us some of the tools we need to use.

Today in hands on learning we had an early start where we did our College jobs and cleaned up our T3 room before heading to Westvale Men's Shed. As soon as we got there we prepared the table and the barbecue, cooked halal sausages and some original ones. We also had onion's and we cooked them on the barbecue as well as veggie burgers. We all had lunch with the Men's Shed volunteers. They showed us around and we got to see the amazing projects they make.
Today in HOL we went to the Remus way community garden being built by Taylor's lakes lion club. They requested our help in moving garden soil for the veggie garden boxes and gravel for the pathway. We walked there with our wheelbarrows and garden tools. Cardboard was layered to prevent weeds growing, then gravel was placed on top. The year 9 leadership students joined us to help. Everyone including the HOL staff and the Lions Club members worked hard all morning and were then rewarded with a great Pizza lunch. We are looking forward to returning next term!
