Year 10 Italian Day Out

On Wednesday 17th July 2024, our Year 10 Italian students attended an excursion to the ‘Italian Day Out’ at CO.AS.IT in Carlton. The event sought to encourage students to continue their study of the subject by immersing them in the Italian language and culture. The day was packed with engaging activities, motivational speeches, inspiring videos and  a delicious pizza lunch at Ms Frankie. Che buono!

The event began with an inspiring video showcasing the exciting career prospects in Italy in such areas as tourism, finance, retail, business and information technology. In addition, students listened to three young adults talk about the benefits of learning another language and how studying Italian helped them in their studies and work. Students discovered firsthand how valuable speaking Italian can be, not just in Victoria but globally.

Students from the different schools were divided into groups and each group rotated through various fun activities. The workshops included such activities as a treasure hunt, which required students to explore sections of Lygon Street, and the production in small groups of a Tik Tok completed exclusively in Italian. It was an opportunity for our Year 10 students to collaborate with peers from other schools and showcase their language skills in fun and competitive environment. It was great to see students make new connections and friendships on the day.

Our year 10 Italian students had an opportunity to participate and shine in this unique and enriching experience. They enjoyed  the day learning the value of knowing the Italian language and  I hope the excursion ignited a passion for learning Italian beyond Year 10!
