Year 7 Soccer

On 17th July three teams of Year 7's went out for interschool soccer. The Girls Team with two players down put in an awesome effort, coming 3rd with one win and one loss. The Boys A Team did amazing by winning all their games, including the grand final, which put them in first place in their pool.  A great effort also by the Boys B Team, ending in 3rd place in their pool. Well done to the Boys A Team for going to the next round.

Year 7 Boys A Team  went  to the district soccer tournament and played a terrific three games, all resulting in considerable wins.  Their first game was against Lilydale High B Team. We won by 4 and got used to the team. The coach Olive B. had arranged a strong lineup which was altered throughout the day, playing to the team's strengths and weaknesses. The second game was against Emerald, and we beat them 5-1 with the major scorers being Finn, Charlie and Ryder. They then had a break and prepared for the final between Lilydale Heights A Team and Lilydale High A Team. There was a lot of tension but as the starting whistle blew, the boys sunk back into their positions and played very well, getting a goal in the first five minutes. The team also had an added two players, Kobe and Danyn, who played in attacking position which helped with the goals. Lilydale High tried to hang on, but The Heights kept on giving, getting another two goals. As the final whistle blew the boys celebrated and patted each other on the back as they took their photo with the coveted ribbon.

The Year 7 Soccer B Team had a lot of fun at the Monbulk Rangers Soccer ground; the games were fast paced and some of the opponents were very skillful. Unfortunately we did not play in the finals or make it to the next round, but overall everyone had a great day.

Intermediate Boys Table Tennis

Well done to all of our boys in the Table Tennis teams. I have been extremely impressed at the interest, application and effort the boys have shown in our intermediate age group. We took four teams to the competition on 31st July and they had an extremely busy day. They played non-stop and when they were not actually playing, they were required to umpire and score for each other. All students were respectful, supportive of everyone in the competition and played with integrity. We had a great day, with all teams finishing 2nd in their pools. Many of the games went down to the wire. Some certainly got my heart pumping with adrenaline and excitement. Congratulations and thank you to all; it was a pleasure to take you out.

VICTORY for Middle School Boys at Yarra District Basketball

On Wednesday 31st July, four teams of boys competed at basketball. Three teams progressed in their pools to play off for 3rd placing in their pool, whilst the A Team won all of their games. They then played in the semi-final where they had a comfortable win before playing off in the grand final which has been reported as 'one for the ages'.    In a game of ebbs and flows, there were multiple lead changes. Big moments from all players kept it close with Luke L. hitting an outrageous 3-pointer.  Defensively they were difficult to stop, having to change from zone defence, man-to-man defence and full-court presses at various times. Unfortunately, we threw away a 6-point lead for them to tie and cause overtime. We trailed by 2 points with 20 seconds remaining before Charlie A. was fouled shooting from 3.  'Mr. Clutch' (Charlie) made 3 from 3 to give Lilydale Heights a 1 point lead, where we defended the final shot of the game to win.  Well done boys!
