In the final week of Term 2, Box Hill High School hosted two chess tournaments. The first was our Interschool Chess Tournament where students from Blackburn, East Doncaster and Box Hill High schools came together to battle it out and be crowned chess champion for each respective school.
This event was a powerful demonstration of the benefits of chess, a game that promotes student engagement, concentration, problem solving and decision making as well as an opportunity for students to connect with others in the local area who share an interest in chess.
The following day, we hosted a second chess tournament just for our BHHS students. Again, students from all year levels engaged in battle to take the title of Box Hill High School chess champion.
A massive thank you to Chris Bailey, our chess aficionado. We are very fortunate to have him here at BHHS to organise, adjudicate and run these events.
We hope to see more students sign up for our Term 3 and 4 Chess Tournaments, including our very first all-girls Chess Tournament.
Congratulations to the Term 2 chess champions!
