Feats of Strength

Many of us know the story of, or at least have heard about, David and Goliath. But we don’t typically hear about the side of David when he was younger. He was able to convince the King (Saul) that he was suitable to fight Goliath due to his earlier experiences as a shepherd. He said that God protected him when he was a shepherd and had killed lions and bears. And if God had protected him then, he knew that God would protect him now.

During school worship this week, we looked more at these moments of Young David that shaped him for who he was to become. We watched an episode of the new series ‘Young David’, which can be viewed for free on the Angel Studio app or from their website (https://www.angel.com/watch/young-david).

Watching this episode allowed us to see David as a normal kid who had fun, laughed and got scared – all the same emotions as we feel. A life just like us – just no need to fight lions or bears on the school oval 😊.

But in our setting at Good Shepherd in 2024, we can be reminded that we have a God who protects us. That no matter what giants or obstacles we face (fear, sadness, bad news, etc), we can do so confidently knowing we have a God who is on our side and in our corner.

Similar to our teachers who were amazing in our ‘feats of strength’ challenge in worship on Wednesday morning… we have a God who is our source of strength and courage in all we do.

Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.
