Junior School

你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families, 

 

This week is Year 1, students explored how they care for our community in our Guided Inquiry sessions. We had some thoughtful discussions about the different ways we care at school, inside and outside the classroom, and ways we take care of our spaces at home. Students then used their creativity to draw and label their ideas, proudly adding their work to their Guided Inquiry folders.

 

In Writing, we began diving into Information Reports through creating a mind map all about ourselves! Students brainstormed ideas about their families, important places, special events, character strengths and more. We have also continued strengthening our recount writing skills, sharing our weekend adventures and reflecting on our Guided Inquiry learning.

 

During Reading, we began our Paired Fluency lessons. Students read a class text about natural and man-made objects, then worked with a partner to practice smooth, expressive reading. We finished with partnered and class discussions answering comprehension questions to deepen our understanding.

 

In Maths, we continued building our place value knowledge through think boards and engaging in partner games. Towards the end of the week, we put our creativity to work by making a paper chain number line to represent tens.

 

A big thank you to all our families for your time and participation in our junior three-way conferences this week. It was so special to share and celebrate the incredible learning and growth happening across the junior school!
