Year 1

Grade 1 update!

The Year Ones have begun swimming lessons at Hailebury College to develop their swimming skills through structured lessons. Throughout the program, students build confidence in the water while learning important safety skills. Students practise basic skills such as floating, kicking, blowing bubbles, and moving safely through the water. For many students, it is a big achievement to put their face in the water or swim a short distance. Swimming has been a joyful experience for all students. They have shown bravery and excitement. All students have shown a responsibility for looking after their belongings.

We are looking forward to our next lessons with the last one being water safety.

In the classroom, the students have been working on class routines, building their friendships and developing their growth mindsets. We have been focusing on the learning pit, mathematical mindsets and literacy norms, seeing how a positive learner works through challenges.

In Mathematics, the students have been exploring, recognising, and writing numbers up to 120 through partitioning. In English they have been developing their knowledge on story structures, learning about main characters and character feelings. In Core literacy, the students have been learning their new long vowel sounds of ae, and ee.

The students have shown great resilience with the new learning and new classes. We cannot wait to see what they achieve this year!
