Year 7 Electives - Robotics

Year 7 students in the Robotics elective are embracing challenge and creativity as they build and code their LEGO SPIKE robots. As they assemble sensors, motors and moving parts, they learn how coding brings their designs to life. This elective is helping them develop problem‑solving skills that will support them far beyond the classroom.

Year 11 VCE Biology - Bubble Membrane Lab

VCE students explored the nature of the plasma membrane through a fun “bubble membrane” practical, using soap bubbles to model how membranes behave. By dipping loops and strings into bubble solution, they observed how thin films formed, fused, and flexed - just like real cell membranes.

This hands-on activity demonstrated the fluid mosaic model proposed by S. J. Singer and Garth L. Nicolson, showing how phospholipids form a flexible bilayer with embedded proteins. Like bubbles, plasma membranes are dynamic, self-sealing, and selectively permeable, helping students visualise membrane fluidity, surface tension, and structural stability in an engaging, memorable way.

Year 7 Class Captains First Duty

Year 7A Class Captains proudly carried out their first official duty by raising and displaying our school flags. This important responsibility marks the beginning of their leadership journey. The main role of class captains is to represent their peers, model positive behaviour, assist teachers with classroom organisation, and foster a supportive and inclusive class environment. We are excited to see them grow into confident leaders who contribute positively to our school community.

Lights, Camera, Pasta!

Year 8 Media students transformed the classroom into a mock Italian restaurant as part of a creative food-vlogging project. Students designed visual props and settings to imagine what it would be like to share an Italian meal with a friend while filming a vlog. Working together, they practised storytelling, camera framing, and presenting on screen. The activity encouraged creativity, collaboration, and confidence while developing practical media production skills. 🍝🎬

Year 11 Fit2Drive Workshop

On Monday 16 March, our Year 11 students took part in a Fit2Drive workshop, gaining valuable insights into road safety as they prepare for life behind the wheel. This half-day program helps students build their understanding of road laws, decision-making and risk assessment as young road users.

With support from Victoria Police and Fire Rescue Victoria officers, students explored key safety concepts and discussed a real-life case study to better understand the impact of choices made on the road. The session encouraged students to reflect on the responsibilities that come with driving and the importance of making safe choices on the road.

Careers and Employment Expo

On Thursday 19 March, our VCE Vocational Major (VM) and VET students attended the Careers and Employment Expo held at the Melbourne Showgrounds. This highly engaging event provided students with valuable exposure to a wide range of post-school pathways, including university and TAFE courses, as well as employment opportunities across diverse industries.

The expo featured a variety of displays, seminars, and interactive activities designed to inform and inspire students as they consider their future career options. Exhibitors included representatives from organisations such as the Australian Defence Force, Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce, alongside numerous universities, TAFEs, and industry professionals from key trade sectors.

Students actively engaged with presenters and participated enthusiastically in the interactive experiences on offer. The event provided access to expert advice and up-to-date information, enabling students to deepen their understanding of potential career pathways. Importantly, many students reflected that the expo helped to clarify their current pathway planning while also sparking interest in new and previously unexplored opportunities.

Secondary Youth Leadership Conference

On Thursday 19 March, our secondary students attended the Secondary Youth Leadership Conference, Australia’s largest leadership event designed exclusively for secondary school students in Melbourne Convention and Exhibition centre.

This highly regarded conference focuses on developing confidence, resilience and essential leadership skills.

Throughout the day, students participated in dynamic keynote presentations, interactive workshops and guided reflection sessions that encourage self-awareness, goal setting and personal responsibility. They heard from inspiring local speakers who shared authentic stories of perseverance, growth and achievement. This excursion encouraged self-belief, initiative and meaningful connections with students from other schools, helping them broaden their perspectives and strengthen their sense of belonging within a wider community.
