Harmony Week

Last week, we celebrated Harmony Week, and on Friday our Mambourin students joined our Tarneit campus for a special Harmony Day Worship Service.

The morning was filled with meaningful moments, including a vibrant Harmony Day Parade where our Preps and their Year 12 buddies walked side by side. It was a beautiful reflection of connection across year levels. Students also shared Colossians 3:14 in a variety of languages, highlighting the richness of our diverse community. We were further treated to a special performance by our Filipino Dance Team, adding colour and energy to the celebration, a memorable morning filled with connection, culture and a shared sense of belonging, which continued into lunchtime with further student performances and sausage sizzles.

Harmony Fair

The 2026 Harmony Fair was a huge success!

Our school came alive with colour, culture and community spirit as families enjoyed a fantastic range of activities including a magician, balloon artist and face painting, plus a special visit from two police officers and their car. Guests also loved exploring the incredible variety of food and beverage trucks, while our talented students took to the stage with their traditional performances.

A big thank you to everyone who helped bring this event to life. Your support and enthusiasm made the day truly unforgettable. It was a wonderful celebration of diversity, connection and harmony.

Harmony Cup

For Harmony Week, our secondary students brought our community together through a student-led football tournament — The Harmony Cup 🏆

Designed to celebrate the spirit of Harmony Week, the tournament united students through the world’s most popular sport. Beyond the excitement of the game, it was a powerful display of respect, grace, courage, and integrity in action. A big congratulations to Team India, who claimed the win in an spirited final against Team Leitak, finishing 4–0!

Year 12 Jacket Ceremony

On Thursday 26 February, we celebrated our Year 12 Jacket Ceremony, with a special surprise for our youngest students. Class by class, our Preps and Year 12s came together to exchange jackets and a Good News Lutheran College teddy bear — a touching moment that symbolised the beginning of our Preps’ school journey and the closing chapter of our Year 12s’ time at the College. The occasion highlighted the strong sense of community and the meaningful connections shared across year levels.

Tarneit Division Swimming Carnival

On Tuesday 24 February a group of Good News Lutheran College students competed at Werribee Outdoor Pool against other schools in the Tarneit Division for the opportunity to qualify for the Western Metro Regional Swimming Carnival in Geelong. Our students performed exceptionally well throughout the afternoon, achieving multiple first and second place finishes. We wish all students who have qualified the very best as they prepare to compete in Geelong on April 1.

Reading at Good News

If we want our students to become lifelong readers, we need to teach reading as a skill. Although some say reading is a “dying art” in the age of social media and streaming, research shows that young people genuinely enjoy reading when they have choice and time to explore books they love. At GNLC, we believe reading is an essential life skill — just as important as Maths and English. We wouldn’t assume students maintain their maths skills without continued support, so we shouldn’t expect lifelong reading habits to develop on their own.

Our Good News Library runs a Reading Program for all students from Prep to Year 9, designed to nurture a lifelong love of reading. Students are introduced to a wide range of genres, formats, stories, and authors. They also learn how to choose books that interest them and are encouraged to set aside dedicated time for reading — because regular reading builds language, concentration, and imagination. Reading truly rocks when you have the time and the right book! We also model strong reading habits ourselves — so… what are you reading?

Interschool Volleyball Wrap Up

Across Term 1, our Year 7, Year 9/10, and Senior Volleyball teams represented the College at Eagle Stadium in their interschool competition. The Year 7 teams gained valuable experience with the girls showing strong teamwork and the boys securing a hard-fought win. Our Year 9/10 boys finished with two wins for the day while the girls competed hard in every match and showed great improvement. The Senior boys also came away with a win against strong opposition, while the girls demonstrated resilience and a positive approach throughout. It was a great opportunity for all teams to represent the College and continue developing their skills.
