Investiture Ceremony 2026

This week, we proudly celebrated our 2026 Student Leadership Team at our annual Investiture Ceremony — a significant milestone in the life of our school.

Surrounded by family, staff and peers, our newly appointed leaders formally accepted their badges and the responsibility that comes with representing our school community. The ceremony was a powerful reminder that leadership at Balmoral State High School is not about titles, but about service, integrity and setting the standard for others.

We were honoured to welcome Di Farmer and Renee Coffey, along with our other distinguished guests, who joined us in recognising the commitment and potential of our student leaders.

As our leaders begin their journey for 2026, we look forward to seeing them model courage, compassion and initiative across every aspect of school life. We know they will lead with pride and continue to build a culture where every student feels valued and empowered.

Congratulations to our 2026 Student Leadership Team — the future is in capable hands.

Year 7 Science

Have been discovering the phases of the moon using Oreo's to explain the eight different phases of the moon.  The cookie allows the moon to shine bright with the Oreo filling making this a great practical experiment to reinforce the learning and a little snack at the end to celebrate their successful interpretation of the moon phases.

Students then took their learning outside to complete a gallery walk of their moon phases and introduce the concept of seasons.  They finished off their learning by demonstrating the different types of eclipses.

Staff Collaboration

Spotlight on teachers driving the engagement continuum in Maths and Science. Mitch Ferguson and Jack Honan delved into the continued work of Engagement in our faculty meeting where we asked for a teachers spotlight on success story about engaging our learners in the classroom through the use of the engagement continuum.

Staff were focussed and locked into their intentional collaboration time where they participated in a variety of different activities to engage the learners in the learning.

💡 Junior Leaders Step Into Co-Design at QUT

Last Thursday, our Junior Student Leaders proudly represented Balmoral State High School at the Public Schools Alliance 2026 Year 6 & Year 9 Student Leadership Conference, hosted by Queensland University of Technology at the Kelvin Grove campus.

The conference centred on a powerful design-thinking question:

“Which challenges in our school are best solved WITH students rather than FOR students?”

Throughout the day, students collaborated with peers from across the Alliance to explore how student voice can meaningfully shape school culture, learning experiences, transitions, and the future of education. They engaged in rich discussions around belonging, physical spaces, and how schools can better support students — not just through consultation, but through genuine co-design.

Our Junior Leaders demonstrated maturity, insight, and initiative as they identified patterns, named real challenges, and began shaping ideas grounded in both opportunity and responsibility. Most importantly, they embraced the understanding that leadership is not about having all the answers — it’s about listening, collaborating, and creating positive change together.

We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school community and look forward to seeing how their ideas continue to develop and influence student voice at Balmoral.

QDU 2026 season

Balmoral kicked off the QDU 2026 season with a bang last night with our Year 10 team winning their debate against Moreton Bay College.

They successfully argued that news organisations should be not-for-profit, delivering well-research speeches.
