Principal's Report

Dear BEPS Community,

As we reach the end of 2025, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our parents, helpers, and friends who have supported Burwood East Primary School throughout the year. Your time, generosity, and enthusiasm continue to enrich our programs and strengthen our school community.

The release of the 2025 Yearbook provides our community with a meaningful record of the year. It captures the breadth of school life learning, achievement, creativity, and connection—and serves as a valuable reflection of the many experiences that have shaped 2025 at BEPS. It is a collection of memories that highlights the shared efforts of students, staff, and families.

You may have noticed the recent installation of three new flagpoles at the front of our school. These poles have been installed to proudly fly the Australian Flag, the Aboriginal Flag, and the Torres Strait Islander Flag. Each day, our student leaders take on the responsibility of raising and lowering these flags, demonstrating respect, leadership, and acknowledgement of the rich cultural heritage that shapes our school community. This is a positive addition to our school grounds as we continue to foster an environment of inclusivity, recognition, and pride.

Celebration Day 16th December 9.30am-11.00am

A reminder about filming and photography: Parents and carers are welcome to take photos or video footage of their own child for personal use. However, in line with our school’s policy, this content involving other students must not be shared on social media or any public platform without their expressed permission.

We look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday for what will be a wonderful day of performance and song.

Teacher allocation and classroom structures for 2026 is now complete, and all students have met their 2026 teacher as part of our recent “2026 Day". A significant amount of preparation, professional judgement, and thoughtful consideration goes into both student placement and our staff workforce planning each year. Our aim is to always create balanced, supportive, and successful learning environments for every child. We appreciate the trust our families place in this process and the collaborative work of our staff to ensure the best possible start to the new school year.

This term we also farewell several valued staff members: Nadia, Rebecca, Ally, Jasmine, Meejoo, and Jamie. We thank them sincerely for their significant contributions to BEPS and wish them every success in their new roles. Teachers move on for many reasons, growth, new opportunities, fresh experiences and at BEPS we are proud to support and encourage this professional journey.

At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Ben C (Year 4), Peter (Performing Arts), and Irena (Year 6) to our team. Together they bring a wide range of experience, expertise, and strong educational backgrounds. We look forward to the energy, innovation, and knowledge they will contribute to our school in 2026.

A huge congratulations to Inaya Year 6, who recently appeared on Hard Quiz, the popular ABC television show known for its quick-thinking trivia questions. Competing on national TV is no small feat, and Inaya stepped up with confidence, courage, and a brilliant attitude.

We are incredibly proud of the way she showcased her knowledge on her preferred topic, Space. Opportunities like this remind us of the amazing things our students can achieve when they back themselves and embrace new experiences. Well done, Inaya!

Congratulations to our nominated 2026 Student Leaders, who presented with confidence and have been chosen by their peers to represent our school next year. Leadership is a privilege and a responsibility, and we are excited to see how they will grow in their roles.

Our 2025 Year Six students now enter their final weeks of primary school. We are very much looking forward to celebrating with them at the Year 6 Graduation. This is an exciting milestone—stepping from the sanctuary of primary school into new opportunities at secondary school. We are extremely proud of the young people they have become.

We extend our appreciation to our 2025 School Councillors: Cindy, Persephone, Eva, Malsha, Shin Yee, Samantha, Yuen Lam, Leanne, Teri, Edwina, and Vikki (voluntary). Your commitment, guidance, and support this year have been invaluable.

We proudly celebrate the success of our Lacrosse Team, who competed in their very first school competition this year. Their sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination were outstanding congratulations to all involved!

At the conclusion of each year, half of our councillors complete their tenure. Pending renominations, vacancies will be available at the start of the 2026 school year. School Council meetings are held twice a term on Monday evenings at 5:00pm, usually finishing by 6:00pm. We encourage interested community members to consider nominating.

As we move into the festive season, I wish all members of the Burwood East Primary School community a safe, restful, and joyful summer break. Christmas is a cherished tradition for many around the world marked by family gatherings, church services, decorated trees, the exchange of gifts, and the spirit of generosity. Whether you celebrate through faith, family, or simply by enjoying the warmth and joy of the season, may this time bring peace and happiness to you all.

Merry Christmas to all and thank you for a wonderful 2025.

Yours in Partnership,

Darren
