Dear Families,
With only a little while left, we still have plenty of learning to enjoy and some exciting events coming up. As teachers, we are reflecting on our students growth and their transition to being a grade 5 student. We are all working hard and showing great energy as we head toward the end of term.
English:

This week we began a new text: CJ Dennis' poem "The Ant Explorer", initially published as part of a collection in the authors text 'A book for kids'. Vocabulary included loathe, dreary and weary, while handwriting reviewed consonants joining to the letter a. When we complete this poem we will begin a new poem called "Mulga Bill's Bicycle' a classic Australian text by AB (Banjo) Patterson. We will be looking at homophones such as rein, reign and rain, vocabulary such as pride, fright, awful and encounter, and Literary devices used in the text such as onomatopoeia, personification, rhyme and rhythm, irony and hyperbole.
Mathematics:
Our Probability unit this week analysed dependent events in their everyday life, where the first event affects the second one. For example; If you eat one chocolate from a box, there are fewer left for the next person to choose. Next week students will learn about pictographs and column graphs, create their own and interpret examples.

Religious Education:
We are really practicing for our presentation of the 'Little Drummer Boy' for Carols performances on the 9th December. Next week we continue our advent education, looking at the second week and lighting the candle of peace. Students are also learning about the Jesse tree each morning during prayer. Pictured are some of the learning students will undertake next week, with Mr Mac's experiences highlighted.

Social & Emotional Learning & Integrated Studies:
This week students participated in the KidsRoar Incursion. The student's developed a greater understanding of how important it is to ‘ROAR’….
Recognize – feelings, warning signs, safe/unsafe situations and secrets
Own – their body and understand it belongs to them
Assert – have confidence to implement the ‘No, Go, Tell’ strategy
Report – to their identified trusted adults and persist in telling them how they feel.

Auslan:
This week and next students are taking part in reflection weeks, depicting and enacting the movement of zoo animals . They began creating a story using simple descriptive phrases and are working on summarizing two events in a signed story. This forms part of the final assessment for the year for Auslan.
