Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Welcome to Week Eight! We can’t believe how quickly the term is flying by. With only a little while left, we still have plenty of learning to enjoy and some exciting events coming up. The students are working hard and showing great energy as we head toward the end of term. We’re looking forward to another positive and productive week together!

Athletic's Day Your child will now have their house colours for Athletic's Day. Please check with them as they are able to wear their house colours or their sports uniform. 

Friendly Reminder:  Please ensure your child is in the correct school uniform and has their name on items that come off and on during the day. This includes jumpers and jackets. We have a lot of lost property at school to check if needed. 

Christmas Carols: Below is the song we will be performing. If you could practise at home, that would be great!

This week we learnt about:

Religious Education: This week we are continuing our learning about Advent, with a focus on the Peace Candle and what peace means in our daily lives. Students are exploring ways we can show peace through kindness, patience, and care for others.

Mathematics: In Maths, we have been learning how to collect and organise data using tallies. Students have enjoyed asking questions, surveying their classmates, and recording their results. We are now using our tally marks to make simple graphs and talk about what the data shows. The children have been engaged and confident as they explore real-life ways to gather and understand information.

English: In English, we are reading the story Tiddler and using it to inspire our own narrative writing. Students are learning how to plan a beginning, middle, and end, and how to add descriptive details to make their stories more interesting for the reader. We have been focusing on using strong verbs, adjectives, and clear sentences to bring our characters and events to life. The children are enjoying creating their own imaginative stories based on what we’ve read.

Auslan: In Auslan we are learning how to sign animals with wings

Social & Emotional Learning: This week we had a special visit from Dawn from KidsROAR. Students learned about Safety Hands and different ways to keep their bodies safe. They also learned the correct names for body parts so they can speak confidently and clearly if they ever need to. It was an informative and age-appropriate session that helped build the children’s understanding of personal safety.

Integrated Studies: In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about kindness and community. To show appreciation to the Grade Threes, students made Acts of Service Advent Calendars for them to enjoy. This activity helped us celebrate the idea of caring for others and strengthening connections between our school communities.
