Year 5
Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Bethany Families,
This week, our Year 5 students finalised their persuasive letters to the Arctic Council. They are proud of the effort they have put into their writing and have demonstrated a strong ability to use persuasive language in a meaningful and impactful way.
Camp is coming up, and there are plenty of questions being asked! Staff have been answering students’ queries, and we’ve included a helpful rundown below. We are very excited to see the students’ growth, friendships, and perseverance during these two days.
Please ensure your child is wearing a hat when they arrive at camp.
Departure – Wednesday 3rd December
Return – Thursday 4th December

Next Week
Religious Education:
Next week, students will begin their learning around the special season of Advent. Advent means “coming” or “arrival,” and they will be guided in reflecting on this important time in our liturgical calendar as we prepare for the coming of Christ.
English:
Next week, students will demonstrate their understanding of the concepts learned this term by planning, writing, and editing a persuasive letter written from the perspective of two characters in The Last Bear. The focus will be on April persuading Edmund to help Bear. Students will plan, write, and edit their piece, including an introduction, three body paragraphs (each presenting a clear argument), and a conclusion.
Mathematics :
Next week, students will learn to collect large-scale categorical data and create column graphs with non-unit scales.
Integrated Studies:
In Integrated studies next week the students will be learning what respect and empathy look like in online spaces. They will learn how to practise ways to communicate online that help build positive relationships.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Next week with the upcoming camp, students will be reviewing the camp social story and ensuring they are fully briefed on the 2 days.
Auslan:
Students continue to revise previously learned concepts and use the Auslan Sign Bank to support them in reviewing alternative sign versions.
HATS - During term 4, school hats are mandatory.
As students’ bodies and minds continue to develop, it’s important they start the day well-nourished. We kindly ask families to ensure that students come to school having eaten a healthy breakfast. A nutritious start to the day helps students maintain focus, energy, and a positive attitude throughout the morning, particularly during the first two hours of learning when concentration is vital. Thank you for your support in helping our students be ready to learn and do their best each day.
Reminder for students to bring in forks or spoons with their lunch.
