Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on
Our Year 9 students recently took part in the Work Experience Industry Taster Program, delivered in partnership with the Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN. St Brigid’s College is proud to be the only school offering a Year 9 program of this kind.
Over three days, students rotated through three different industries, spending time in workplaces to explore career options, gain practical insights, and consider their future pathways.
A huge thank you to the WSM LLEN, our Careers Coordinator, Lesley Lannen, and the businesses and organisations who generously hosted our students.
As part of the Year 9 Work Experience Industry Taster Project, one group of students spent the day at Nhill Hospital (West Wimmera Health Service). Students had the opportunity to explore several departments, including Radiology, Theatre, and Allied Health. This was a great opportunity for those students considering a career pathway into health care, and we sincerely thank the staff at Nhill Hospital for their generosity, guidance, and the warm welcome they extended to our students.
Last week, Year 11 students spent 3 days in Melbourne for the Year 11 Street Retreat. It was a jam-packed itinerary filled with various social justice, arts, culture, and entertainment activities!
On Monday, students attended a City Walk facilitated by The Intersection Urban Learning. The session encouraged students to challenge assumptions and reflect on the impact of 'single stories' in shaping our views of others.
Students also visited the Melbourne University campus, and had a tour of residential College, Newman College. This experience offered our students a glimpse into university life and encouraged them to consider their future pathways.
Throughout their time in the city, students were given free time to navigate public spaces independently, building valuable skills in time management and navigation, as they were required to meet the group at designated times.
Other highlights of the trip included the Eureka Skydeck, THE LUME, ACMI Exhibition, VCE Top Designs exhibition, escape rooms and a games arcade.
Year 7 Foods students have been baking and decorating delicious muffins! Students got to design their own muffin recipe, coming up with some yummy combinations including mixed berry, and tuna and feta!
We are super excited for our new Food Technology space to be open in Term 3!
Recently, Year 12 students and teacher, Mrs Chris Rook, proudly presented Carmel O’Kane, Cancer Centre Manager at the Wimmera Cancer Centre, with a cheque for funds raised through our 2024 Small Business Pop-Up Shop sales. Our Small Business students have been supporting the Wimmera Cancer Centre for a number of years, and have donated over $3,000 during this time.
