Some summing up quotes from students in Years 9 and 10 include:
'Very fun, busy and wet'- Belle
'Even though it rained a lot we had a fun time. Seeing the smiles on stage 5 was the best thing that happened on camp because we had fun during school time.'- Michael
'Lots of fun and excitement, loud noises of conversation and laughter.' - Alexis
'Even rain can't stop us having fun'- Ebony
Stage 5 camp was filled with enjoyable activities followed by funny moments. When the bus arrived we were all excited hauling our bags, pillows and suitcase. The bus ride up was very calm, while we had immersive conversations with friends. Going with the wonderful camp leaders to instruct us for some extremely fun but also challenging activities.
First night, Mr. Nicholls shared about the camp's theme that ‘words and action matter’ through the book of James 1 and how he applies it daily. There was a camp fire and and an impromptu dance party thanks to Miss Fahey’s music and Ben’s light show. Then we went into our cabins for a good rest for the next day.
Another rainy day, and an early morning with a delicious hot breakfast and many tired faces. Mrs Stewart shared about James 2 and our words and actions. We ventured into the cold going for archery and some brave souls hiking and canoeing in the morning.
Throughout the camp we completed many activities and almost everyone was involved and had a go. From high ropes to pioneering.
Second night we looked through the bible with Mr Terlich and what God’s word says about how we act and speak. There was a talent show where we heard the funny, talented and unplanned, with a variety of acts ranging from a brillant recorder solo from Mrs Stewart to a group karaoke.
There were two cinemas set up for some movie time- the choices were Lego Batman or Despicable Me for some nostalgic downtime.
The last morning was filled with rain so there was an undercover option including initiative activities and board games. Mrs Rebel shared about her testimony and James 4 at breakfast. Some ventured into the cold rain to complete activities such as the sky cycle and gorge swing. The trip home was filled with singing and talking about their camp experience.
Overall there was a lot to learn from this camp and to take from it. New connections were built and new memories made. With many being able to agree that ‘Camp has to be one of the best ways to come together and make memories with your friends’- Rhianna
Thank you to Mrs Rebel, Mr Terlich and all the other teachers for letting us have this experience and making it a good one!!
Our Junior and Senior Teams had an incredible day at the CSSA Zone Netball Gala Day at Kiama.
We were blessed with gorgeous sunshine and two amazing teams displaying exceptional sportsmanship, playing respectfully and encouraging one another.
Our Senior Team was unstoppable even after commencing with a bye. In their third game the girls displayed incredible resilience as they were down by 1 point at half time. They rose to the challenge, displaying solid defence, preventing the other team from scoring any further goals resulting in an astonishing 19:7 victory. They remained undefeated and were crowned the zone champions.
Our Junior Team was also amazing! The majority hadn’t played netball prior, but we commenced training late in Term 1 and the girls continued to bring great enthusiasm, joy and commitment to learning the game and developing their netball skills. They won their first game displaying great teamwork, joy and perseverance.
The team ended up placing third which is a wonderful result given the level of competition on the day and the injuries that were encountered throughout the day. It was an absolute joy to see the girls develop their love of netball and put their skills into practice.
Our Senior Team has been a beautiful asset to our Junior Team, training alongside them. We wish our senior girls all the best as they go on to represent our school at the CSSA State Championships in Term 3.
Donkeys, fairies, crazy dreams and lots of laughs...These a just a few words that come to mind when reflecting on our performance from the Bell Shakespeare company. Our Year 3-6 students were treated to a very entertaining performance called Bottom's Dream based on Shakespeare's A Mid Summer Nights Dream. Using only three actors the play very cleverly brought a classic play into a modern setting. The performance was fast paced and engaging from start to finish. The students even had opportunities to join the action and take on minor roles in the performance.
Here's what some of our students had to say about it:
Eva - I thought the show was really, really funny because it was a play about a play. There was even a person that turned into a donkey.
Charlotte - I thought it was good, amazing, and brilliant. I loved the realistic characters.
Mila - I like the main character. His name was Bottom. It was funny when the Fairy Queen fell in love with the donkey.
On a wet May morning our K-12 students snuggled up with over 2 million others to enjoy The Truck Cat for National Simultaneous Storytime. This is a heartwarming story about home, belonging, remembering, and finding things that we thought might be lost forever. With fun activities and lots of shared smiles it was a great way to come together through the wonder of books.
Recently a small group of Year 10 students competed in the Ethics Olympiad. This is the second year NCS, and this group, have competed. This competition involves teams of five grappling with a number of cases which raise ethical issues. Our students have appreciated the chance to engage with some big questions and discuss, firstly with each other and then with teams from other schools, where they stand on certain issues and why they take that stance. It is a great opportunity for young people to think deeply and learn to articulate why they believe what they do. Later this year our Junior Team will have the chance to train and compete.
Layla M from Year 10 recently represented both NCS and CSSA at the NSWCIS Secondary Girls Netball Championships at Netball Central, Sydney Olympic Park.Reflecting on her experience, Layla shared:"On Thursday the 15th of May, I got the opportunity to play at CIS with the U15s CSSA team. It was a challenging day as the team had never played together before, but we still managed to get a win. Overall, it was a great day, and I’m so grateful to have played with CSSA for the second year in a row."Well done, Layla! We’re so proud of your efforts in representing our school at this level.

On Wednesday 14 May, Year 10 boarded the early train from Bomaderry, headed for Sydney University to attend a performance of Macbeth at the Seymour Centre.
Accompanied by Miss Mitchell and Mrs Weakley, students joined with other school groups from Sydney and surrounds to enjoy the matinee. The cast created a modern twist on this classic Shakespearean tragedy, replete with a dance party, techno music, and militaristic costumes. It left us with a lot to think about as we study of this play in term 3.
"Come what come may, time and the hour runs through the roughest day"... and what a day it was! We returned, exhausted, after enduring the vagaries of public transport. Year 10 were are credit to themselves and to NCS, displaying kind and courteous behaviour throughout the journey.
Two Secondary teams proudly represented NCS at the recent Netball NSW Schools Cup held at Shoalhaven Netball Association. We had a Year 7 team and a Year 9/10 team competing on the day.
The Year 7 girls showed great determination, playing seven games in total. They secured two wins against Nowra and Bomaderry High Schools, had a draw against Vincentia, and played well throughout their four other games.
Our Year 9/10 team also displayed excellent teamwork, playing five games (unfortunately missing out on their sixth match). They won three and lost two, showing resilience and skill across the day.
A huge thank you to Charley (Year 12) and Mrs Drury for umpiring all of our games - your support was greatly appreciated!
Well done to all players for their effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork!
Senior Advanced English students visited the Seymour Centre in Sydney to watch a performance and discussion of "The Tempest". It was wonderful to see Shakespeare's play performed and the discussion was very helpful. Students were encouraged to think about the relevance of this play to modern life. We travelled to and from Sydney on the train. It was a long but very worthwhile day.
