Building Works

We are enjoying watching the progress of the new building at the front of the school. The framing is nearing completion and some of the window frames have been installed. In the next fortnight we are expecting to see the brick work commencing. This exciting stage will really mark the change between a construction zone and being able to envisage the final building.

We also were pleased to be able to open the new playground. The students are having a fantastic time exploring all of the aspects of the new equipment. We will, shortly, be having some further landscaping work completed around the top entrance to the playground.

I think it is timely, to once again, thank our community for being understanding and patient as we work through the maintenance work in other areas of our school.

Foundation enrolment

Last week we ran an information evening for future Foundation enrolments. This focussed on 'school readiness' and how parents can prepare their children for the transition to school. This was well received and a number of new to HEPS families were in attendance.

It is time for those with 2026 Foundation students to enrol their children. Instructions on how to complete the online process are found on our website.

Level 5 Camp

Our Level 5 students recently had an unforgettable experience at Camp Weekaway. The action-packed 3 days included exciting activities such as laser tag (a definite favourite), flying fox, archery, hut building, and canoeing. Students demonstrated exceptional behaviour throughout the camp, showing teamwork, resilience, and a positive attitude. Many students shared that it was the best camp they’ve ever been on! A big thank you to all the teachers and parents who attended and helped make the camp such a memorable and successful experience.

Semester 1 Reports

The staff at HEPS are currently busy writing Semester 1 reports. These reports provide a clear overview of students’ progress based on a range of assessments and classroom observations collected over the semester. Parents will be able to access reports via Compass on Thursday, 3rd July from 4:00 PM. We encourage families to save a digital version of their child’s report for future reference—this is especially important for our Level 6 students as they transition to high school.

How do we assess students and write reports?

We report in line with the Victorian Curriculum. Students are placed on a learning continuum (progression points) for each curriculum area, based on the data teachers collect throughout the semester.

It's important to understand that moving from one progression point to another can require significant learning. If your child’s progression point has not changed, it does not mean that growth hasn’t occurred—it simply means the progress made has not yet reached the next benchmark.

At HEPS, we value individual growth—one of our core school values—and celebrate each student’s achievements. We recognise that every learner progresses at their own pace, and that learning can plateau and peak at different times. While the progression points on the front page of a report may not always reflect this growth, the comments within the report certainly will.

Working Bee

Save the date Sunday 22nd June, 9:00 am–12:00 pm

A reminder, our second Working Bee for 2025 will take place on Sunday 22nd June from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. The main focus of this Working Bee will be cleaning the school windows and exterior walls. We'll also spend some time in the veggie garden and carry out a general tidy-up of the school grounds.

If possible, please bring along the following items: buckets, squeegees, window cleaning solution, long-handled brushes or brooms, sponges, cloths, two-step ladders and gloves.  A BBQ will be provided for all volunteers at the end. All parents, children, and friends are warmly invited to attend.
