Social and Emotional Learning at ARPS

Supporting Our Students to Grow: Social and Emotional Learning at ARPS

At Athol Road Primary School, we are proud to offer two outstanding programs that help support the social and emotional development of every student, Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) and UR Strong.

These programs are an important part of how we nurture emotional literacy, foster healthy relationships, and create a positive, inclusive school culture where every student feels safe, connected, and valued.

Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)

The RRRR program is a whole-school initiative that teaches children how to build resilience, understand their emotions, manage relationships, and solve problems respectfully. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and developed through extensive research, RRRR supports children to explore their personal strengths, set goals, recognise and regulate their emotions, and develop empathy for others.

The program also focuses on teaching students their rights and responsibilities, helping them understand what respectful relationships look and feel like, both in and out of the learning space.

UR Strong: Our Friendship-Based Program

UR Strong is a globally recognised friendship program that teaches children how to develop and maintain healthy friendships. Through engaging and age-appropriate lessons, students learn the language and skills to express themselves, stand up for themselves and others, and resolve conflict.

At ARPS, we especially love the way UR Strong encourages children to reflect on their friendships and recognise when relationships are in the "green zone", where friends are kind, supportive, and respectful. It also gives students strategies to deal with "friendship fires" in safe and empowering ways.

We are incredibly proud to have these enriching programs embedded in our school. They’re more than just weekly lessons, they are part of our everyday language and culture. Students are supported to build confidence in who they are, value their friendships, and grow into emotionally intelligent, respectful young people.

By teaching these essential life skills, we are giving our students the tools they need to navigate their world with kindness, resilience, and self-awareness. At Athol Road Primary School, we believe every child deserves to have healthy, happy friendships, and these programs help make that a reality.
