Bridging Now to Next
We recognise and acknowledge National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, commencing with prayer service and workshop with our Primary students.
Our prayers focussed on Reconciliation 'bridging now to next', run by our Years 2 and 5 Navy classes. This followed by a workshop with students writing and illustrating their own Acknowledgement of Country, expressing what is meaningful to them.
All primary classes were invited during National Reconciliation Week to alter their prayer space to incorporate a focus on how students can bridge now to next. This provided an avenue for students to personally connect and support the continued sharing of knowledge and Culture by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within our community.
This morning we came together as one school and stood alongside out First Nations people with a Welcome to Country, participating in different parts of the welcome. We took the time to reflect on what reconciliation means to us and how we live it in our daily lives.
Mount Carmel College is located on the traditional lands of the muwinina people of the South East Nation. We acknowledge and deeply respect all palawa / pakana of lutruwita, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community, and all Elders past and present. We are committed to learning alongside our students and community in this place, nipaluna, and support the continued sharing of knowledge and Culture.
