Secondary Interschool Soccer

Going to Interschool Soccer was an experience and a half. Even though it was a 9/10 tournament and our team was mainly made out of 7/8s we still decided to enter our school. Honestly, I’m glad we did. I’m not really a soccer player, I prefer being able to hold and throw the ball, but I quite enjoyed playing it. I especially enjoyed how we all talked like a team, making up tactics and helping each other understand their role. At the start, I felt a bit helpless, I didn’t really comprehend what I was supposed to do. But by the second game I felt part of the team. Being beaten 4-0, 2-0, and 3-0 stings, but we lost while having fun, so it’s not as annoying. I’m really competitive and I really hate losing and I got a bit frustrated and I think maybe a few of the others did too. However, Mr Jackson was so encouraging and enthusiastic that it was hard to stay that way. All in all, I think I’d definitely like to do it again next year! - Lucie H
The morning of the event many of us were nervous not because of our chances of winning but just having enough people to go. It was a real struggle getting enough people but when there's a will there's a way! We riled up the forces and put together a patchwork team of people from all different grades, sizes, and skill. As we walked onto the bus, spirits were high and we got especially pumped up when Mr. Jackson told everyone their skill and how they were used best on the field, but as soon as we got to the field you could cut through the grogginess with a knife. It was warm but stuffy and sizing up against the other teams we felt pretty intimidated but, as soon as that whistle was blown and we kicked the ball we were off, dodging, passing, tackling. Our brilliant captain David was a highlight winning the ball for the unsuspecting Irymple Secondary, but Mason Janetski was our secret weapon. We got the ball to him and he could outrun all of the opposition's defenders without breaking a sweat. He only had this opportunity from the brilliant blocking of Neil Joseph and Tilesa Kolo. In the first games it was 5-0 us at zero . That may sound bad but they were bigger and stronger and they had at least 30 shots and goal and we blocked most of them. Feeling good, it was now time for the second game. It was a similar story in the first half with no one scoring at all but at half time we had a chat amongst ourselves and we came in swinging and in the second half our set-up was better than ever we had four major opportunities to score. But with the efforts of Trinity's goalkeeper they were able to block them. Our egos hurt. We let two goals get through and lost the match. That was it, we were feeling pretty low. We took our boots, socks, and shin pads off, getting ready to go back to school when we looked at the timetable one last time and saw we had one more game. We frantically put our socks and boots back on and ran over to the field. We had a good start but as this game was trying to get 5th place the other team started to muck around and it ended up not being a proper game distracted by the shenanigans of the other team we let 3 goals get in and lost but we felt ten feet tall we had come to interschool entered a 9/10 team that consisted mostly of year 7/8s and played brilliantly I am really proud of our efforts, and can't wait to go next year.
